Sooooo we trade Gaudreau and Neal to EDMONTON for a higher cap hit, equal skill to Johnny yet worse than Neal... Nope.

Shaw also had more points in fewer games than Frolik this season.
Didnít realize Shaw was that productive offensively

In terms of P/60 he would have been fifth on our team after the big four forwards. Seems like a good target

I would assume (if this were to occur) that a bit more would be going back to Philly. Pick(s), prospect, what have you.

My guess a deal is something like this with Montreal.

Brodie

For

Armia
2nd round pick.

He also had a career year, so it's hard to say for sure whether or not he could repeat those numbers.

Mike Bales, Carolina's goalie coach, has resigned.

...he certainly seems like he'd be an upgrade, and there's the natural connection with Peters.

Friedman believes he is on Buffalo's radar.

That's not enough for a #2 Defenceman.

Jake Muzzin returned a 1st + two recent 2nd round picks.

That was for 1.3 seasons of Jake Muzzin.

TJ Brodie > Jake Muzzin.

I think it's more than fair to expect TJ Brodie to return the same level of package that Jake Muzzin did.

Then that is a terrible deal for Calgary, if all we can get for Brodie is a bottom 6 winger we are better off just keeping him.

I just don't see a scenario where a 1st pairing defenseman and a bottom 6 winger have equal value regardless of term.

Muzzin was dealt as a deadline deal. Price is higher and you know where the first rounder is going to be (late). Perhaps a team will be wiling to part with a later first for Brodie, but I find it hard to believe anybody would be willing to part with a 2020 first rounder for Brodie. Especially a team like Montreal who is more likely to be in the lottery than the playoffs.

Armia is big, strong, hits hard and puts up 25+ pts per season. He is in the age range for the rest of the group and the deal sheds cap space.

a mid 2nd is a reasonable add. Especially as 25-50 in this draft is all pretty clumped together.

As mentioned in The Athletic: "Given one day on the Flames’ Iron Throne — what do you do?" By Scott Cruickshank Jun 11, 2019

Brodie for Brandon Saad and Anton Forsberg. Flames would also send Chicago a 2nd and 5th round pick.

In addition, Michael Frolik to Florida for a 3rd round pick...

Some people's value of Brodie is so so so so so wrong.

Yeah I would consider Brodie and Muzzin eerily similar players, so equal in fact that over the past five years they have played almost the exact same amount of games and both put up exactly the same amount of points (188). Even their contract values are in the same ballpark. They should carry equal value.

But Muzzin carried a longer term,, so was worth more, assuming they are equal.

In fairness, Johnny is signed for only 3 more years and is likely to leave then. It's a chance to get a longer term player.

I would like a Chicago deal surrounding both of those players coming to Calgary. Saad would add a lot of what Kreider would. A bit less jam but a bit more offensive pop.

And I have a hunch Forsberg is ready for a bigger role in net.

Some people are thinking ahead to Gaudreau heading back east as a UFA, as all indications point to. Sometimes itís ok to trade guys who donít figure in your long term plans for a significant return and avoid getting another Iginla/Bouwmeester package of trash.

And Monahan is the only player with enough value to bring back an upgrade on himself as a #1 centre.
