Not individually, but he could definitely put an ownership group together of which he is principal. He really wants this.

Between that and stringing the Flames along until the 11th hour even though its come out he knew "early on" he wasn't coming back to Calgary, and this leaves a sour taste in my mouth. He's so Tavares now - only worse. At least Tavares just went home to his childhood pj's team. Johnny's random (seemingly desperate) choice is so much more insulting.

See, again, this is what’s weird to me, if he goes to the Islanders, nobody bats an eye, but he chooses Columbus and that’s not okay. I don’t get it, he’s still out east, in the same time zone as his family and they’re still a long drive away regardless if it was Nassau County or Columbus. The only city that would’ve been extremely close in proximity was Philadelphia, but they made no offer.
In the end, Calgary was never an option anyway. It wasn’t like, Calgary vs Columbus. It was, do I live in NJ or Long Island or Columbus and he chose the latter. It’s kind of like Travis Hamonic only wanting to play in Western Canada. Vancouver isn’t really that close to Manitoba, but it’s still Western Canada. Johnny did the same thing, he wanted to play out east and now he is. It’s not even that bad, like driving from Saskatoon to Calgary. 6 or 7 hours, my friend does it all the time.

I think the press conference leads me to believe that Johnny wanted to stay. His wife didn't and he can't throw her under the bus. But he talks about "we" and "best for us". That's why the squirming. That's why the changing of minds. I think he really wanted to come back, but ultimately they made the decision together.
Why Johnny wife wanted out is anyone's speculation. But she must have really hated someone in Calgary. Maybe the ghost of johnny's past. Maybe some of the wives. Maybe some of the players. Maybe some of the exes.
Johnny probably thought the money could convince her to stay. But it didn't. She wanted to start a new life together. anywhere else but Calgary

I'm really really upset about how he lead the Flames on, but I can't be upset about his family choices. For some people, building an empire and the greatest legacy possible is the main goal in life. For others, it's raising a happy family in the best environment possible. I think John believed he would be able to go home with his family and when that didn't work out he chose what he believed to be the next best option for his family. As a family man I fully support and respect that, but I also value integrity and honesty so I hate how he handled the situation with the Flames.
I still hope Johnny and his family have a wonderful life, but I won't be able to cheer for him like I would have if he had treated the Flames organization with respect.

I said, speculatively, that maybe Columbus has a state of the art pediatric hopsital. Looks like that is the case. I have no doubt Meredith, and her career goals, played a big part in this decision. Which is totally fine.
However, there is no way they didn't know this weeks ago. And he will have to deal with the fallout from that, because he handled the situation poorly.

After watching the interview, I have a feeling it was His wife and her family were the ones that decided they had to leave Calgary. I believe that Johnny wanted to stay and is now trying not to throw his wife under the bus.

I have checked him out, he likely doesn't. His estimated net worth is 100 million, he's rich as ####. Even if that estimate was 10 times too low, that's not buying an NHL team territory.

Maybe i'm just parsing words here. Johnny is male, Maybe you're saying he's not acting like an adult male, which would in fact be a "man". If they were female, would you say they're not acting like a woman?
|
That's how I read the original comment. I thought GirlySports was saying that he was behaving childishly. I can see that point of view: the whole sequence of events has a certain air of a kid saying, ‘I'm taking my ball and my bat and going home.’
I think Gaudreau made some really questionable decisions in the heat of emotion, and I strongly suspect he'll come to regret it.

Are you buying a Draisaitl or Kane jersey first?

Just watched his press conference. His answers about leaving Calgary and why he chose Columbus are not convincing. This whole thing is just weird and sad for Johnny and the Flames.

Honestly dude, had the Oilers played the Flames again in another 7 game series right after, would it not have ended in the exact same way? The Flames had absolutely no answer for McDavid and Draisaitl. Hyman, Kane and RNH also had themselves a series.
Fast forward to this season, if the Flames signed Gaudreau, this team would have less depth due to cap constraints, so how exactly was this team suppose to fair better?
