You're both aware that you don't have to come into this thread if you're not interested in the subject, right?

No, but I now get to see it pop up again everytime the thread gets bumped because of the inability to unparticipate from something.

It would be nice if threads were dated, so at least if you posted something and learned your mistake, you wouldn't be punished forever.

There's plenty of threads I just have to scroll past that pop up when they're bumped too. My first thought when I do so isn't to go into those threads and make snarky comments. That's where my post was coming from.

Was completely unaware. Thank you for this information.

I’m also aware that a thread where the only bumps that show interest in the topic are by the same person is probably a thread that could just die.

I don’t have the visit Grandma in the hospital either, but I pop in once in a while to ask my Aunt why we haven’t pulled the plug yet. Surprisingly, it gets a worse reaction.

I've never really been able to wrap my head around the concept of beauty pageants, so I've enjoyed the opportunity to appreciate it through someone who likes them for non-greasy reasons. Thanks, GS!

Fair comment, but how are beauty pageants still a thing.

Mind Bottling.

That doesn't look very practical. How are you supposed to ride a bike to work with that? Wind resistance, can't wear a helmet....all sorts of issues. And imagine being stuck behind her at a Flames game? Ugh!

Nope. I don't feel anything Canadian out of that other than the maple leaf scepter. Hockey stick outfit was better.

Today is interview day so there is no footage which is too bad cause that would be gold to see what is essentially a job interview. Interview is 60% of the preliminary score to make the top 20 Sunday Night.

Meanwhile the Miss Universe youtube page has video profiles up for each contestant. All have great stories for women's empowerment.

Here's an example. Canada's is not up yet.

Preliminary Competition! I like all the little stories they read out.

Swimsuit 20%, Evening Gown 20% (plus interview 60% from yesterday)

Top 20 make the Final show Sunday Night

They should wear flip flops for the swimsuit competition. Try and make that sexy.

Not the same as Miss Universe, but my friend just competed in the Mrs. Universe competition. I won't say what country she represented but the pageant sounds pretty shady, with alleged connections to organised crime, lots of bitchiness and the voting hopelessly rigged. The winner represented a country other than her own and was not married, which seem like they should be two pretty fundamental rules of Mrs. Universe.

That said, she did meet a few genuinely nice and inspirational contestants there who were championing good causes.

My friend said that overall it was an eye-opening experience, she's glad she did it but would never participate in something like that again. Oh and she said she was starving the whole time, there was basically no food available for the ladies, they had to sneak out to eat!

Any idea what it cost her to participate? I would expect it to be pretty expensive between registration fees, travel, outfits, hair and make up, etc.

Yeah that pageant sounds really shady. It was held a week ago in Cebu, Philippines and I can't find who won.
