Default Jason Spezza is a healthy scratch tonight

Stars in Boston to take on the Bruins.

Jason Spezza is a healthy scratch for today's game. Coach's decision. #DALvsBOS

One more year at 7.5 million in case you're wondering.

Blah... no thank you unless Brouwer is going the other way.

Have you heard that laugh?

Deserves to get sat for that hideous noise.

He's on pace for 29 points.....

I don't think they will find a taker for that contract.

He's 34, a bit early for such a big drop off. I know he's had favourable circumstances throughout his career, but to drop from a 60+ point pace to less than half that is pretty insane, especially for someone who has a career average of 78 points entering the season.

He was clearly the passenger on the line with Seguin and Benn last year, but he wasn't useless.

Bergevin will probably trade Mete for him and then make Spezza play left wing

Of course I took him in the CP hockey draft. Looked at my list, had Brayden Schenn and Spezza as the next guys still available, figured Spezza is the safer pick - Schenn will still be around next pick...

Duly noted for whenever you post potential trades.

I like Brouwer now that he's playing with Tkachuk and Backs

Brouwer's playing well, but going forward that contract is terrible. As long as it doesn't impinge moves the team wants to make, fine. But a buyout will, IMO, cost less than moving the contract.

2 more years at 4.5. It's our only bad contract too after this year. Depends on your definition of terrible, but it's hardly the worst in the NHL. I think we're just spoiled by all the great contracts we have.

I don't criticize Brouwer like others but $4.5 is terrible based on his contribution so far. It was fair based on what he did on other teams before. Right now he's playing Frolik's role at Frolik's salary, so that's all good. But he really makes too much as a guy who's mainly a fourth liner and PKer.

I agree that you only need to be concerned if the cap room is limited. I expect that Treliving has some projections, some budget for new signings and re-signings. Treliving's biggest strength is contact negotiation IMO, and the significant pieces are locked up long term already, with the exception of Backlund and Jankowski (Tkachuk and Bennett one year later).

The other thing that it causes is difficulty moving him in a trade if there's a great player the Flames want. If the other team is trying to shed money (which is why they trade a great player), they won't want Brouwer's contract in return.

My hope is that Brouwer pulls a Jiri Hudler and kills it in year three of his contract.

Same thing happened to Dennis Wideman as well, but he had a five year deal. Don't want Brouwer to cross-check any officials either.

27 points in 42 lockout shortened games his first year.
54 points the 2nd (Post Iginla, no Johnny, 18-year old Mony).
76 points in year three.
Traded for positive value at the deadline year 4.

Jiri Hudler is far and away the best free agent signing this team has ever made as long as I've been a fan.

The best ever - and I've been a fan from the get go (in Calgary anyway).

Distant seconds: Glencross, Hamrlik, Gelinas.
