Did they really just basically poo-poo the entire original series with that reveal? Bold move, but that ought to sour some fans I think. But on the other hand it was the only move they had left to give the reboot a fresh direction and 'up the stakes'. I don't know what to think yet but will reserve judgement and see if it can gain some traction.
Really though, it's 2016 and I've gotta say that alien looked worse than the ones in the 90s show. As a fan of most things sci-fi that was a little disappointing.
The dead should be left to RIP. I'm sure the show could have progressed without him.
I thought it was a great way to go right back into the mythology of the show, considering the whole cloning story line from the originals. His face looked to be rebuilt too so it will be interesting to see how they choose to explain this.
Not the greatest episode by any means but we'll have to see how it all unfolds by the end. Not a bad episode either, from a purely fanboy standpoint there was something satisfying about seeing those characters again.
For anyone that missed it, you are supposed to be able to watch the first episode here: http://www.ctv.ca/video/player?vid=793397 (though the player is crappy and keeps buffering for me).
Has anyone watched it yet? They released the first three episodes to critics and the consensus seems to be the first episode is bad but it gets much better.
Straya doesn't get this for another 6 days though. Poor decisions like this are why Oz has the highest per capita illegal downloads in the world.
That's good. I thought the first episode was decent and somewhat necessary to provide some relevancy to Mulder and Scully teaming back up. The last 20 mins or so were pretty cool if you ask me. Also it was a nice touch using the original opener. So if upcoming episodes are better, then sign me up!
I agree that the the sfx were not great, but serviceable for TV. Also it was weird seeing Joel McHale on the show, though he does fit the role he was given as a snarky Internet personality lol.
I didn't think the acting was the greatest but I still enjoyed the episode, but the first episode isn't going to bring a bunch of new X-Files fans on board.
I enjoyed it, but I think I am giving it some leeway because I am such a huge fan of the original.
Questions -- Is Skinner still Assistant Director? How many years has it been and he's seen no movement? Perhaps that is typical of the FBI. Why did Mulder jump to Svata (sp?) being the key to everything simply because she had one singular experience? Why would her one experience undo all their previous work? What did I miss there? Why is her experience 100% the undoing of all their work? I don't get that. I understand the conspiracy they are saying is possible, but why would one unconfirmed experience undo everything? Why does he immediately put all his faith into her experience? Why would Mulder give the TV host the time of day? I get that he went through Skinner to reach him, but who cares? Why would Mulder be inclined to meet him? There was zero chemistry between the host and Scully and then there she is, drinking champagne in his limo?
I'm going to watch the whole thing, but I do have questions. I hope the rumours of it getting better are true. It has a lot to live up to.
After a couple of seasons where the writers pulled scripts right out of their ass, I was going into this with really low expectations. But it managed to exceed them, so there's that.
Interesting that they threw much of the last nine seasons' primary story lines right out the window. I'm curious to see where they take things.
After watching both The Fall and Hannibal recently, and then this, I've decided that Gillian Anderson is just a terrible actress.

Laugh, I don't think I've ever seen her in anything where she's blown my doors off acting wise.
I remember they had an x-files episode where Tea Leoni was training to play Dana Scully in a movie and she was a better dana Scully then Dana Scully
