I was curious as to what the canucks' snake would look like. The 2015-16 year is similar to the 2016-17, so I didn't include both of them. I also like have only three snakes per chart.

In 2014-15 the yellow snake was only below the black line after the conclusion of one game (#7). It reached 96 points after game #80. Fortunately, the red snake bested the yellow snake in the playoffs that year.

The blue snake is quite the story. It died after game 74, never to be heard from again. It did spend the first 6 games, and 12 of the first 16 games, above the black line.

After another hot start this year, the green snake spent 7 of the first 15 games above the black line. Since then, nothing. It is now 4 points below the blue snake. Keep in mind, the blue snake finished 27 points below the black line. The green snake is already 4 points worse than that. It does have the benefit that any points earned in the last 8 games of this year are an improvement. 0-7-1 in games 75-82? Yup. That's an improvement. It's also 13 points below the yellow snake, which finished 5 points above the black line.

The chart limits were changed for fun.

Canucks were remarkably consistent in 14-15. Now they consistently suck.

Surely there are more types of snakes we can have?

The Canuck snake has had one heck of a tumble over the last 15 or so games. Good.

I updated the app I put together last year for the 2017-18 season for anyone who's interested. It grabs data from the hockey reference schedules and results, creates the snakes, and auto updates each day based on the games played. It has snakes for each team and you can go back to 2014-15, but by default only the current and last year are shown.

I also added in a new feature that has standings based on how many points each team is above or below the snake.

Hope you like and if you have ideas for features, always interested to hear!

Thank you for this. I really enjoyed looking at this last year as well.

All hail the Snake in its many forms.

The snake was tired from its 7 game surge, but did it just sit down and do nothing?? No! The snake trekked onward, continuing its climb, though more slowly than before. After a quick All-Star weekend slumber, the snake shall climb again.

All hail the snake!

Well technically I'm climbed down slowly at a rate of about .2pts a game. But the overtime losses certainly aren't costly. We have dropped less than 1 regular loss would drop us

After the NHL All Star break the red snake is still above the black line for the first time in many years. The red snake is 0.634 points above the black line, 7 points above the purple snake, and 3 points above the green snake. The red snake has been above the black line for 6 consecutive games, matching the best streak from the 2016-17 season in games 68-73. It is one third of the way to matching the 18 games the 2014-15 snake spent above the black line from games 13-30. The purple snake only spent 9 games above the black line, while the red snake has already spent 14 games there. At least on point is required in game #50 in order to stay above the black line.

The red snake is on pace for 97 points. It requires 38 points in the final 33 games, for a 1.152 pace. This is the equivalent of a 94 point season.

Here are the Albertan snakes. Both teams have played 49 games. The red snake is 0.634 points above the black line, while the blue snake is 10.366 points below the black line. 11 points separate the red and blue snakes.

Now on the extra crispy snake it looks like the blue snake has poked it's slimy head above the minimum. This is incorrect. It was still 10.024 points below the minimum area of the chart, but it looks like Excel's colouring could use some more exactness.

How very strange. By a cursory reading of CP the past several weeks one would think the Flames are the worst team in the NHL. The snake would seem to disagree.

4 overtime losses greatly skews the perception. It costs you less than 1 regular loss. So the snake does fine but our PP has been abismal and people are right to sound alarm bells because of it.

Isn't Excel just the *worst* at charting? You'd think that a program that's been around for a zillion years would be at least acceptable. It just isn't. One of the reasons people have moved to other solutions. But it's convenient and common.

Snek doesn't seem to mind though. As long as its head is above it's butt, we are all happy. And as long as extra crispy stays where it is...even better!

I am well aware that the team has issues, but I also think the gravity in some of the responses I have seen here is overblown.

The Red Snake confirms what I have been thinking for a while, this is the most consistent and talented Flames team I have seen in a long time. I look forward to the new heights the snake will achieve down the stretch.
