The worst part about Sven being benched is that the game threads turn into the Sven is Benched thread.

After scoring 2 goals in the 1st, Backlund is pulled out of the game in the 1st intermission and told to gather his things. He is traded to the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations. In an interview with Sportsnet, Feaster explains that this move is made to make room for Ben Street in the lineup.

berra is going to throw up the stone wall tonight, aka kipper when he'd rebound after a 5 goal game.

2-0 flames!

As he should be. Glad to hear someone on the Fan960 is calling Hartley out.

Did you listen? He didn't call Hartley out, if anything, he said at this point you would assume Burke has OK'd this "treatment" and that he trusts Burke implicitly.

Loubo was pretty strong on the side of saying this is the right move.

A reminder that this game will be on the secondary Sportsnet Flames channel (302 HD, 326 SD) since the NFL game is on Sportsnet West.

I don't watch the Flames right now to see Tim Jackman spear people and generally do his best impersonation of a penalty taking pylon.

I watch the Flames to see the young guys progress, notably Sven Baertschi. Kind of tough as a fan to cheer for Sven when he is in the press box.

To put it another way, would you rather pay to see the Flames with Sven in the line-up, or Jackman? For me the choice is quite clear; the product on the ice is much more exciting with a young game breaker. As a consumer, why would I waste my hard earned money to support a team that insists on icing an inferior entertainment product?

Keep up the mediocre work Bob.

My impression was that it was more meandering on both sides of the argument

Sometimes his sentences are so long there are three different topics covered before he takes a break

(not trashing him, I love the guy)

Haha yeah fair enough, he kind of went from "Well I don't get it!" to "Well I support it because sometimes players need to be told what they need to hear, not what they want to hear."

In the end, he was pretty firm that it was a smart move assuming the goal was teaching and molding Bart. He also suggested it would be extremely unlikely for Hartley to be able to continue to bench that big of a prospect without approval from Feaster and Burke, and if Burke approves it, then he fully trusts the decision.

Smart guy, just takes you on a ride to get to his point now and then.
