Glad it's done. Probably a bit on the pricey side, but not by such a big number that it can't be dealt with. IMO, having your best players I this age range making under 7 a year is easily manageable with today's cap figure. It's when they get to be 28 and get 10 million that it's not.
|
That is a solid argument against HERO charts, if that is what they suggest.

Let us not befoul this glorious day with talk of the anal gland drippings that are HERO charts. Today is a day of celebration, a day of thanks, a day of jubilation. Under 7 for 7 years? That's a goddam amazing contract now and will be mind blowingly bananas in just a few years.

Not quite sure his math is right, but that's OK He gets paid to play hockey, not do complicated math.

Monahan thinks he's 30. That's why he's so mature.

I don't agree. What Millions did was pretty obtuse in my opinion. The only questions Monahan should be fielding on the biggest day of his life are about Sean Monahan, and not about another player's contract negotiation into which Monahan himself has no perceivable influence.
Anyhow, this is still an awesome day.

Obtuse, irrelevant, poorly conceived... all of the above. But hi-jacking the press conference it was not.
I have no feelings for Millions one way or the other and agree that question (the way it was worded) shouldn't have been asked to Monahan... but the suggestion he was attempting to turn the whole thing to something about Gaudreau was over-dramatic. It was about 90 seconds on a topic we all knew was going to be brought up. Brad and Sean answered, and it was over.
Either way, pretty insignificant portion of the presser to be arguing about.

Really glad this is done. The only time one should be worried about deals like this coming out of an ELC is inconsistent play, Monahan has not only been consistent but has made progress every season. Glad he is a Flame for 7 more years.

Did anyone ask why they didn't go 8 years, in that case?

I am A-OK with this signing. About exactly what I think market value is for a young centre capable of 60+ points.
