Default Town of Drayton Valley Evacuation Notice

As the title suggests, the town of Drayton Valley has been ordered evacuated due to an out of control wildfire. Evidentally the fire jumped the North Saskatchewan to the south east.

This sucks. I have very close family there.

I hope it's not one of those summers (selfishly, because of my sinuses)

Active fires all over Central/ Northern Alberta. I don't know how typical that is for this time of year, mind.

In the Edmonton area they had half the precipitation they normally get in April and two straight days of record temperatures. Hot dry conditions at this time of year is not good news. May in these parts is a pretty dangerous month for fires. High winds some heat make it really dry.

From Hinton to Edmonton is full of a lot of muskeg and low lying water which is usually good at preventing fires. But when muskeg dries up, the opposite is true

Even the winter here was really dry. We got snow on the first of November and that same snow wss around till March. There was a stretch of 50 plus days where the temperature didn't rise above 0. So no freeze thaw, and without checking records, it felt like less snow than other years. So when that ground is this dry...any fire is going to move fast.

I’m in central Alberta. Got an emergency alert in the middle of the night and turned my phone off. Another at 7 when I turned it back on. Listening to CHED, and our idiot premier, are all they’re talking about. There are dozens of fires around the province. This is dire.

Currently in Edmonton this week, enjoying the hot days / warm evenings but there's that haze creeping in that you should only really see in August... and the four emergency alerts yesterday were unsettling too. This province needs precipitation in the worst way right now.

Supposed to get some on Sunday, so let's hope it goes thru. I had a 9:30 Slowpitch game on Wednesday and it was tough to track the ball in the lights as there was a haze in the air.

This is not accurate. Cold winters drives the moisture from the trees, drying them out especially given the very warm weather and high spring winds. Fires this time of year are very common. They are also arson.
Exact same scenario as the 2016 fires (fort mac) which was May 1

I was about to say.. this is looking a lot like 2016 type of summer which is scary. Way too dry.

Not sure if we will hit that 1000+ wild fires like in 2021 but it's been a rough start. Need rain and lots of it.

Pretty sure it was the vaccination mandates that caused this, or probably Trudeau, or Notley, or Jason Kenney, or Harper, or Obama, or Biden or Putin or the Chinese or the left wing media or Fox News or evil oil companies or ANTIFA or black lives matter, bike lanes or hulkrogan.

every bad thing that happens does not need a villain.

Already outsourcing our firefighting, and the season is just getting going.

Too bad the UCP cut the funding to our wild fire firefighting team, but I guess they needed the money to buy third rate tylenol etc.

Is anyone on CalgaryPuck from that area? If so, are you in need of anything, that CP can help with in any way? I think you need only say the word and assistance would be there.

The girl has an old neighborhood friend from childhood living there. They're out and taken care of, which we were glad to hear. Such a scary, uncertain time. We had my inlaws here for a bit, when High Level had to evacuate in 2019. I feel for the people of Drayton Valley. I hope that they're able to return soon.

I guess the winds picked up last night and blew it across the highway in no time.
