TO DUCKS
Mackinnon

TO FLAMES
Zegras
Pick 50 in 23'
1st (ARI) 24
2nd (STL) 24
3rd (CBJ) 24'

Gave up a whack of assets and ate up a bunch of cheese space to do this deal, but I've wanted MacKinnon for a number of years.

Thanks Ravi for the deal

We debated moving Mackinnon for a while but felt this off-season was the best time. Few offers on the table but elected to go in this direction as we add a first (potentially a high one) and then also Zegras.

Zegras comes with 5 more years of control and hopefully will increase his production as the ducks team grows with Fantilli. The 6 some mill in cap space also comes in handy and then a couple 2nd round picks as trade assets. The third round pick in 2024 sealed the deal.

I think there is a lot of high end talent in the top 10 in this draft so I stepped up and overpaid a bit to get another high pick.
This is a bit of a risky trade for Flambers. He needs Perfetti to hit. He's a regular, but hasn't stepped up yet...still only 21 yrs old.

At the same time, Perfetti was in talks to be a 6 to 10 overall pick in what was considered a strong draft year in 2020. So it isn't like Grant is guaranteed to get somebody better than Perfetti.

Zac Jones is a solid dman, but hasn't established himself as a regular, same as Soderblom.

But flambers does have 3 chances to hit something, where Grant has one.

Interesting deal. It's great that the Wild have the 3rd, 5th and 9th pick in this draft though...again I was concerned about Minny's prospect depth.

I actually think it's less risky for him. He's getting at least one sure-fire NHLer and potentially 1 or 2 more. Jones and Soderblom are much better prospects than their original draft position.
But I'm getting the benefit of potentially more upside if I hit on the guy I take at 9.

I think it works for both teams. Flambers gets the sure thing + hedging his bets a bit.

Soderblom IMO swings this deal one way or the other. If he can reach potential then its a big win for Flambers. If he flames out to Europe Grant wins it.

trading is always risky, Cole Perfetti is/will be a 2nd line forward with the Jets.

Will he develop into a 1st line forward, that's a risk for sure....

Zac Jones who knows,

Pick 9, could be a star, or could be a bust...

History of drafting in CPHL my best drafted player was with a 4th round (Aho),

Wyatt Johnson (pick 48) and so on

After holding off of a Marner trade, had deep talks with 3 teams over the last 48 hours and have come to a deal

To Minnesota
Mitch Marner
8th overall
29th overall

To Edmonton
Elias Pettersson
11th overall
43rd overall

Maybe overpaying a bit but wanted a young 1st like center and I get that in the 100 point Pettersson.

They have to be in the CPHL during the signing process if they’re over the cut off I believe. But right now it doesn’t matter

I thought we had to waive guys who were 68 OVR if they were 23yrs old and under.

I don't have a horse in the race, and when re-rates come out they'll have to be brought up right away, so I don't really see how it helps a team, but that's how I understand the rules.

The Islanders have acquired forward Alex Nylander from the Flyers in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick.

Really excited about this one. Watched Nylander at the AHL All-Star Classic this winter and liked what I saw. Think he could be on the verge of turning into something.

Thanks to JD for the deal.

To Philly:
2025 NAS 2nd and 4th

To Nashville:
Matt Dumba

Short tern cap relief for us.
Long term, I think this could be great for Nashville. Dumba will be cheaper due to a down season and I'd bet he bounces back, making him great value in 2024-25

Thanks Cambam8!!
