Was it an historically close sweep, though?

Talk about time to prepare. Jeez. A whole week off before the playoffs and then another whole week before round 3.
Also why the heck don’t the Heat have home ice? 2 games in Stockton and 3 in Colorado?

I hope that's a typo. How in the hell does the 1st overall team get less home games in a playoff series vs an inferior opponent? That's bush league crap if true.

I think it's to save on travel but I agree if the series need 5 games it should go back to the team higher in the standings. I wonder if they are still considered home even if they aren't in a game 5 for rules like last line change and faceoffs etc...

here is the reason behind the series splits as I know it:
-Heat, as the higher seed, had the option of either having the first two home games, or the last 3.
-The Heat must have opted to bypass the potential of a 3rd home game in an attempt to get off to a good start in the series... with hope being a 5th game wont be necessary
-reason this rule exists is part of AHL cost mitigation due to revenue losses during a pandemic year is, there is a large enough distance requiring a flight between these teams, and therefore, aim is to remove the extra set of flights, so its designed as a 2-3 series... there was no option of having first 3 at home and then last 2 on road, otherwise they likely would have just done that.
Go Heat!

I think Ontario chose two on the road in Colorado, followed by three at home. That didn't work out well for them since Colorado swept

HEAT FACE EAGLES IN PACIFIC DIVISION FINAL SERIES
Stockton won five of eight matchups with Colorado during the regular season, including three of four at Stockton Arena. Both teams enter the series undefeated in the playoffs after the Heat completed a three-game sweep of the Bakersfield Condors in round two and the Eagles won a pair over Henderson in round one and three games against Ontario in round two.

$30 for best seats in the house... and plenty of 'em!

Tough sell for a team apparently on the move.
Probably cheaper to fly down to Stockton and catch a Heat game than a Flames game!

As per AHL Transactions wire...
Rory Kerins! and Ilya Nikolaev sign ATOs with Stockton
Heat also add a Free Agent undrafted defenceman Rhett Rhinehart (Saskatoon Blades) on an ATO.

Rhett Rhinehart (D) 20 years old, shoots R, 6'4"223lbs.
2022: 53gp/7g/20a/27pts,even, 84 PIM.
Playoffs 2022: 5gp/1g/3a/4pts, 8 PIM.
He was ranked 111th by Central Scouting for the 2020 Draft. At that time, he was considered a player with offensive upside (15pts in 36 games for the Cougars, then traded to the Blades, where he put up only 3pts in 21 games), with good passing and snarl, but a need to upgrade his skating and own-zone play. Since the trade to Saskatoon, he has changed his game around-sacrificing offence to develop his defensive game, which is now his strong point. He still passes well, but has added a good stick, good gap control, and added meanness and physicality to separate his man from the puck. He has upgraded his skating, and is considered to be fairly mobile for a big man, but still needs work.

Rhett Rhinehart just sounds like a prototypical Flames defenceman name.
Hope he pans out. The organization needs to build its stable of blue liners.

HEAT INDEX
Ten days after wrapping up the first-ever postseason series win in team history, the Stockton Heat return to the ice to start the best-of-five Pacific Division Finals series against the Colorado Eagles. Stockton swept rival Bakersfield in the opening round, winning two games at Stockton Arena before earning the clinching win on the road, a 6-4 victory on Friday, May 13. Monday’s game is the front end of a back-to-back to start the third round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
SOMEONE’S 0 HAS GOT TO GO
The Pacific Division Finals series sees a clash of teams who bring undefeated playoff records into the third round. The Heat enter the best-of-five with a 3-0 record, a pair of home wins to go with a road victory, while Colorado owns a 5-0 mark thus far in the Calder Cup Playoffs that includes a perfect 4-for-4 mark on home ice, two wins over both Henderson and Ontario in Loveland, and then a clinching game on the road against the Reign. Stockton took five of eight meetings with the Eagles in the regular season.
OMGAWDIN
Glenn Gawdin paced Stockton with four points in the team’s opening round, including a three-point effort in the series clincher at Bakersfield with a goal and two helpers. This playoff is the first postseason action for Gawdin since he captained the Swift Current Broncos to the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2017-18, earning playoff MVP honors after tallying 32 points and 14 goals in 24 games.
DOUBLE DOSE OF DESIMONE
Nick DeSimone had goals in back-to-back games to help the Heat close out the series against the Condors, including the go-ahead goal in the third period of the decisive game three. The defenseman had two goals in 21 career Calder Cup Playoff games entering this season and last lit the lamp in consecutive games on March 4 and 6, 2020.
DO THE DUEH
Walker Duehr has gotten off to a strong start in the playoffs, finishing the first series with a point-per-game clip at three points and two goals in the three-game sweep. Duehr netted the game-winning goal and claimed a multi-point effort in the decisive third game, his first career game-winner and fifth professional multi-point game.
FRONT-RUNNERS
Both Stockton and Colorado have put their best foot forward through their playoff runs so far, the Heat and Eagles each opening the scoring in all eight total games they’ve played. The Heat trailed for only 33 seconds of game time in their sweep over the Condors while Colorado has been leading or tied for the entirety of their five games in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
