The software doesn't support it and I've never found a custom module to do it. Embedding a video is usually pretty easy, but twitter requires one to make a call to their site to request the HTML code to display the tweet.
Which would be fine except that they don't want a website making a request each time; they want sites to cache those requests, which means having to do a bunch of development work.
That said I checked their docs and there seems to be a way to do it now that doesn't require that, I'll check into it.

Huh, ok, it wasn't that bad with the (new?) client side Javascript library they have.
So you use the tweet bbcode with the ID of a tweet, and some code will run after the page is displayed to turn them into tweets.
The only thing that doesn't work well is if you post a tweet with the quick reply, it doesn't show up right away, only after the page is refreshed. But everyone else will see it right away.

Not working in Chrome Version 64.0.3282.119, even after loading unsafe scripts. It takes the status and turns it into a typical url link.

Just updated to that version on my Mac and it still seems to work. I'll try on Windows when I get home.

It works fine on Android, and on iOS using Safari, but not Chrome. Even clicking the link goes nowhere.
Can we get instagram next?

I find Chrome on iOS to be wonky right now, there's other sites I use that are really buggy that used to work fine, but I'll check into it.
And no to Instagram

Hmm, I must have something different in my Chrome settings. Good to know it's working for others.

Oh yeah, stuff like this is the bane of web development. I'm not in web development, so I'm not bent out of shape by this or anything. It's more of a quick "Huh.", and then off I go.

FWIW I tried some basic troubleshooting on my end (javascript settings, third party cookies, disabling extensions and AdBlockers, etc.) and couldn't get them to display. If any other Chrome users feel like sharing the settings they're using when they can see embedded tweets here, that would be great. More for my own curiosity than anything.

I found a different way of doing it that should be more reliable, not depending on Javascript, so am working on that.
