I really enjoyed Ready or Not. It was funny and fun. Samara Weaving is a rising star.

You can tell that the cast clearly had a lot of fun making it. Daniel Craig steals every scene he's in.
I saw it this week as well. It was excellent.

Daniel Craig was superb, but I kept thinking to myself they might have equally cast Kevin Spacey in that role. That is before all of his transgressions.

It was good. I don't know if I would go with "terrifying", but it was creepy and unique though.

Deeply unsettling and upsetting is how I would describe Us. Very hard to watch. No real scares, but a deep sense of dread throughout.

Meh. I thought they were going to do something clever with the whole "hands across america" thing, but they never did.

On the return leg of my transatlantic flight, managed to catch a few more movies.

Yesterday - I really liked this. Yes it was not perfect but the scenes of people hearing the music for the first time really worked for me which was enough for me to really enjoy this movie. Well worth watching IMO.

Rocketman - The acting was exceptional, music was great but overall a disappointment for me. Pretty glossy view of Elton John and the people who wronged him. So while somewhat fun I came away feeling I watcheda fictional musical vs a biography.

The Russian Five - couldn’t stay awake for this. 15 minutes in and I had no interest.

Didn't get the sense of dread in Us. A little creepy, at times intriguing. But Get Out was overall far better.

Midsommar stole the show for horror of the year imo. Ready or Not was a great dark comedy, but doesn't come to mind for horror.

Annabelle Creation was so much better than Comes Home. There was a totally different vibe than its predecessor, which was pretty jarring.

I'll start off as saying that I'm the farthest thing from a horror-aficionado, but...

I really liked Get Out. I thought it had everything that makes a horror/thriller really good.

But Us was bad. I mean laughably bad. Its one of the few movies I went to the theatre for off the strength of 'Get Out' and we were all laughing.

I assumed it was parts that were meant to be laughably bad to blindside you to the more more thrilling parts....but alas 'twas not to be.

So I didnt like that one. At all.

Midsommar...what a ton of wasted potential. So there was so much there that I think they just really didnt do enough with. It was weird and cinematically beautiful but thats about the best I can give it.

I think my feeling at the end was: "What? Thats it?"

Ad Astra

This movie doesn't have much of a plot, the lack of realistic gravity on the Moon and Mars bothered me a bit. But somehow the movie works. Visually I found it fantastic and in general I really like it. Certainly not for everyone but if you let it all in and don't expect something spectacular to happen you'll enjoy the film.

Awesome movie, you’ll like it if you like violent movies.

Deer Hunter was on the other day. Uncut no commercials. Hadn’t seen it in forever. What a classic.

Knives Out is a lot of fun. Classic whodunit with a unique flair. Had me guessing all the way to the end.

Definitely recommend.

I quite enjoyed Knives Out, although I thought it was a tad predictable. I thought the first half built up a grand mystery and the conclusion turned out to be pretty much exactly what I thought it was. I never really felt like there was that big twist that I didn’t see coming.

The acting was phenomenal and the humour was on point and wasn’t overdone or out of place. For me it was a solid 7/10.

Sometimes I'll just slap a friend in the face and scream "MAO!" For no reason thanks to this movie.

Okay CP I need your help. I’ve got way too many movies on my Netflix list and no where near enough time to watch them all. It has gotten to the point where when I do have time for a movie I feel anxiety trying to choose. That is where your help comes in. I’m going to watch one movie this week and have narrowed it down to the following 4 award winning films of the early to mid 2010s. What should I watch?

1. The Big Short
2. Birdman
3. The Revenant
4. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

The Revenant is the only one of those I’ve seen, but it was excellent. So my vote goes there.

All are absolutely worth watching. Birdman would be first on my list
