Admittedly went to bed thinking @commie22 was messing with us, but got to sleep putting Flames forward combinations together in my head, including Neal...
#TrustInTreliving
Captain Obvious commentary (but have to recap): Flames GM having an unreal, "real deal" offseason.
Hamilton for Hanifin/Lindholm deal at #NHLdraft
Quality picks at the draft despite where they drafted - see thread on draft grade of A-)
Two nice quality, very reasonable signings yesterday in Derek Ryan & Austin Czarnik. (I would have honestly been happy with these 2 signings alone)
Then to land The Real Deal James Neal, of the prized UFAs out there! Legit sniper. Mind blown. Can talk about term, but, fact is, he was getting paid. Actually lower AAV salary then I was expecting.

He makes a lot of veiled shots. You didn't catch his shot at flames fans about the dirty players comment? You don't think thatnhas anything to do with the Canucks, dirtiest team in history with hall of fame dirty players like Burrows, Lapierre, Torres, Kesler, Cooke, Ruutu oh and let's not forget the most recently signed and noted dirty player Roussel but that can't be just a coincidence that Corsi made that comment, right?

Wondered if this a possibility when I saw VGK signed Stastny- making Neal more expendable in Vegas? Not sure I would mess with the formula too much if I am Vegas. Surprised he left there given what a season it was for them.

Are you sure. I hope so. I seem to remember a limited no-move clause for him. Anyone confirm?

Nice!
Neal had 30g pace in both the 14/15 and 15/16 seasons... I'm hoping for 35g with Gaudreau and Monohan, which will be his best quality linemates since PIT

If i'm Peters i'm playing Neal on the 2nd line with Tkachuk and Lindholm for a more balanced attack.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Czarnik
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Neal
That being said I would have a power play with
Tkachuk
Gaudreau Monahan Neal

No NmC clause is massive. If it doesn't work out for either party down the road, a lot less hassle to move on. For a guy his age it's a massive concession.
Guy can pot goals, play with an edge, exactly what the top line needs.
And on a day when everyone over pays, Treliving approach to properly approach UFAs and get guys like Smith to help out, means a lot in the process for layers to feel wanted.
Treliving really gets things done.
I do suspect some jettison moves, but I don't suspect anyone except Minny and JG should be feeling comfortable that their role and position in the line up is going to be the same as last year. Both with the added talent up front and the coach who uses players all over.
That's an opportunity for guys like Janko and Bennett. Depending on their mindset it could mean trouble for Backlund and Frolik.

Article on sportsnet have the flames as being losers in free agency. Most signings were meh and will regret Neal at the midway point of contract. I was a bit surprised as the overall offseason imo has been an a complete success.

I'm just imagining Bennett finally breaking out for this team.
Flames would be absolutely deadly if that happens.

James Neal is who we hoped Ferland would develop into.
Just couldn't get that nastiness and desire to shoot consistently out of Ferly that comes natural to Neal.

I had such low expectations for next season a week or two ago. Who could blame me? The idea of getting all of Lindholm, Hanifin, Neal, and good depth like Ryan and Czarnik with only Hamilton being the significant piece going out seems like a ridiculous dream scenario that would get you laughed out of any realistic hockey forum. Honestly, if someone had posted that all this would happen before the draft, you'd be labeled as a silly dreamer. Well all I have to say to that is...

Ya, maybe... though I don't see Czarnik on the top line... nor do I see a PP with no RHS
