As a side: Myers Briggs is also useless junk that someone just made up, it has no scientific or predictive merits. So it actually is on the same level as making stuff up from seeing a few photobombs.
When attempts were made to test Myers Briggs , it turned out to be pretty random and more of a mood test than a personality test, with results significantly changing for the same test when retested over shot time periods. Not to mention all its objectivity problems, and problems with introducing dichotomies which do not exist in actual personalities.
If you are interested in personality traits, look for people doing using OCEAN model. While not perfect, it is actually based on empirical evidence, and has stood up to testing and scrutiny.

You can’t think of a player in the lineup that Simmonds could replace at playoff time?

For the cost to acquire him? No I can't.

I'm glad that this deal is working out for both sides right now. The tipping point question for Carolina is if they can keep Ferland who could shop himself around this summer. If the trade becomes Hamilton and Fox for Lindholm and Hanifin the deal swings sharply in the Flames favor. If Fox decides to opt out and it becomes Hamilton for Lindholm and Hanifin, oh boy.
|
The other scenario is if Carolina falls out of the race or decides that re-signing Ferland is too expensive. He could fetch a decent return at the deadline.
If they were to lose him for nothing, then it will be interesting to see what kind of impact he had on playoff race and possible playoff run.
It is just a fascinating trade with so many good young players.

Ryan, Czarnik, Frolik...
I'd push Neal down the depth chart and have Simmonds play 2nd line and PP specialist, plus an energy guy.

Why is this team making any addition that's not a goalie? This is as deep a forward group as they've had in ten years. The defense isn't perfect, but more has been achieved with less.
The weakness is, as it has been for five years, in net. The 36 year old man is not the answer. They need to find out if Rittich can start, sooner rather than later, so they can determine if they get a goalie by the deadline or address it in July. He needs a run of 5-6 games, a night off, and another 4-5 in a row.
Whatever else Treliving wants to do should be put on hold until he addresses the fault in our crease.

Key part of that answer was "For the cost".
I'd rather not spend a 1st round pick on a UFA rental. Save those assets to add long term pieces to this team.

If you're going to blow your 2019 at, may as well spend it on a young goalie you can lock in for 5-6 years.

I don't know about anyone else, but I definitely don't see anything in that that warrants publicly shaming anyone. Seems like a conversation that started one way, took a turn, two vastly different opinions, subjective vs analytic, shutdown of the analysis, 'whatever floats your boat', and everyone moved on. If anything, I detect a bit of frustration that the discussion devolved into.
Either way, maybe a PM if you're that interested in helping Bingo improve his posting style. FTR, if anyone has an issue with anything I say I will happily receive your PM. I'm only 90% perfect.

I dont know exactly whats going on here, but I was advocating for firing Gulutzan by Christmas last year and trying to salvage the season.
I'm not big on the stats, but it was pretty clear that Ol' Gul wasnt working.
I get that some people analyze the stats and saw a better team than was represented in the standings but I saw a coach that was hopelessly out of his depth and being consistently out-coached and effectively doing more harm than good.
Your coach cannot hinder your results, we are not blessed with enough talent to have passengers like that cost us points.
Treliving sticking with Gulutzan until the end of the season cost us the playoffs. If we'd jettisoned him by Christmas there might at least have been hope.

This post will serve as a reminder of how much of a home run this deal is, because of the timing of the contracts.
Ferland if he can keep this pace or close to it for another 25 games or so could be in for a Payday more than a million dollars higher in aav than Lindholm.
What an absolutely amazing trade to get a guy signed the season before he explodes offensively.
Can you imagine the angst and consternation on this board if Lindholm was off to the start he was and his contract was up at the end of the year?
Wizardry. Huge win.

Ferland scores his 7th goal (PPG) and Hamilton his 2nd of the season in a 3-2 loss to BOS.
Keep it up, Ferland, and you're gonna get paid as a UFA.

Carolina, after a terrific start, have lost five or their last seven games, and have only two ROWs in their last eight.

Paging New Era, Mr. Donkey and others? I hope the fact that this post is from a couple of days ago puts the hyperbole some are using after the "lows of individual losses" into perspective. At best Carolina can match our records two games after this statement was made...
There will be highs, there will be lows, a message board is obviously design to live those. However, this team does not transition from worst AHL team to World Beater from losses to wins. It would be nice for those riding the extremes (both ways) to keep that in perspective.

Irrelevant, but fun fact:
Dougie Hamilton is leading defenseman with shots on goal this year with 52. Coming in second place with 39 is none other than Mark Giordano

I don't think I can stomach the Flames spending any more resources on upgrading forwards. The forwards are fine.
If the Flames are going to blow a bunch of prospects and picks on Simmonds, they should instead save those up and just try to acquire the best goalie they can.

Giordano now with 15 points in 14 games (2-13-15), while Hamilton is sitting at 2-3-5 (one less game). Wonder who's missing who?
