Default Calgary Hotel Recommendations

Finally making it back to Calgary after my first visit 25 years ago......and this time my first Flames game at the Saddledome on 3/27.

Also going to the Tea Party concert for the Transmission tour on 3/25 at FlamesCentral.

Going to drive up from Denver and do some real estate scouting along the way.

Not having stayed in the city before is there a good central place to stay that anyone would recommend? I'd rather walk or take a cab to both venues if possible. Thanks for the suggestions in advance.

If the budget accommodates it I'd suggest the Hyatt downtown. Its got a nice lobby, Thompsons bar is great, and the Sunday buffet at Thompsons is epic. You're also right between Stephen Ave and the tracks, so Flames Central is like 2 blocks down Stephen Ave and the LRT is like 2 stops to the Flames game.

The Sheraton in Eau Claire is where the opposition sometimes stays. You could walk to the dome if you really want and hit a bar half way for a beer, or take the train or the Cab.

You would be able to walk to Flames Central for sure.

What's a ball park price for Club Level seating at the Dome?

Hotel Arts is close to the Dome - a funky hotel with two good restaurants.

Who knows what the price will be for resale though? If the Flames are in a playoff race they could be more, if they are out of it they could be less.

Looks like Silver and Gold is equivalent to Club level seating here at the Pepsi center. Figures I choose to come up when the team is somewhat decent......should have seen the Young Guns or the 2010ish Flames...not complaining though!

The legal secondary market might be a better choice. I can't imagine that the value of scalped (again, legally resold) tickets exceeds face value in this city right now. I'm kind of out of touch with the market though.

Check out the Ticket Exchange forum and make a Looking For / Wanted post.

It's more fun this way.

Some days the Young Guns show up.

Some days the 1989 Flames show up.

If I was buying tickets this year, I'd chance it and buy via Stubhub or CP. With the economy and how the team is doing, there are plenty of great deals on seats most days, and will most likely still be the case in March.

The new Hilton Garden Inn in the East Village recently opened. It's within walking distance to the Dome and in a pretty neat part of town (although plenty of construction around there, so it may be loud).

Arts Central is a nice hotel too, and there's a bit more action happening around there. Also walkable to the dome.

If you have money to blow, Le Germain is great.

Tickets are selling for less than face value on the resale market very frequently here. I'd watch that.

If you don't care about fancy, I find the International downtown has good rates and is close to the action and C-train line. Decent hotel, but definitely not a 5 star. Clean, Comfortable, and safe though.

This never panned out a few years back....so we are going to try it again seeing the Tea Party on May 3rd at the Grey Eagle. Staying at Le Germain and flying West Jet...its booked and paid for. Let's hope the Flames are still playing at that time!
