I like Poptone:

From the formation of Bauhaus in 1978, the various members have been determined to focus on the future and reinvention. Guitarist Daniel Ash and drummer Kevin Haskins stuck together through Tones on Tail and, later, Love and Rockets with Bauhaus bassist (and Haskins’ brother) David J.

The whole Poptone project was a bit of a surprise. Again joined by Kevin Haskins, as well as Haskins’ daughter Diva Dompé on bass, Ash admits that the group is nothing more than a vehicle for retrospective.

Poptone is putting out an album, Poptone LP, this June through Cleopatra Records. Spread across two LPs, the album features 13 Love and Rockets, Tones on Tail, and Bauhaus tunes.

Just learned Tim Midyett is active again. His new band Mint Mile released a new ep a month ago. Tim Midyett was the founding member of one of my all-time favourite bands, Silkworm. One of the greatest shows I ever saw was Shellac and Silkworm at the old Calgary Multicultural Center back in '99. His band Bottomless Pit (now defunct) is also worth checking out.

A Kinks reunion and a new album are in the works according to Ray Davies.

Oof lots of big drops today.

Drake drops a double album (which is actually really good), the new Gorillaz album is out (which is way more chill and overall better than last year's Humanz), and Florence - the Machine drops an above average one that didn't enrapture me.

I loved Humanz but this new album I am not liking. I like the first song after that it's all meh for me.

I think I listened to Emotionless on the new Drake album three times before proceeding with the rest of the album.

That is a good song.

edit: probably could have dropped almost the entire second disc and I'd be happy with it. Definitely the weak half.

You didn’t like the song that he somehow got unreleased Michael Jackson on??

I actually think that song is really bad and it's a shame that some hidden MJ gem was wasted on it. It's boring as ####.

Everyone’s got different tastes I guess. Easily my favorite song on the album.

Yes sir. I was talking to a co-worker about it and we both agreed that somehow Drake’s music is easily dismissed first listen. Usually my first listen through any work he releases I don’t enjoy it. But I’ve found after a few more listens somehow my opinion does a total 180. At work I’m not required to speak or be spoken too so I’ve been headphones on all day probably 3 full listens through on the album and there’s songs that are at the top of my list now that I had at the bottom first go through.

This was produced by Sophie, who recently put out a great record too.

I've been listening to the new Father John Misty album, and while it isn't my favorite album from him, it's still a solid entry into his discography. It's pretty depressing since it was written immediately after his separation from his wife, whom if you remember, was the muse of his groundbreaking album I Love You Honeybear a few years ago.

But there's one song that stands out. Absolutely heartbreaking lyrics and beautiful melodies make this an instant classic in my mind.

Quote:
I know a few ten-cent words
I can break out to keep up with her
But you can take what I know about love
And drown it in the sink

I know my way around a tune
Won't be a single dry eye in the room
But you can take what I know about you
And maybe fill a small balloon

But I'm just dumb enough to try
To keep you in my life
For a little while longer
And I'm insane enough to think
I'm gonna get out with my skin
And start my life again

I'm no stranger to the female form
Oh, I've been here a few times before
Oh, but you could have me anytime
Everything's cool, I'm great, it's fine

Oh, but I'm just dumb enough to try
To keep you in my life
For a little while longer
And I'm insane enough to think
I'm gonna get out with my skin
And start my life again
