So, do you like the first nation's monument the people from NYC built?

I like it. Beats the neon sewage plant.

If you're going to spend half a million to build First Nation's art, shouldn't a First Nation artist around here do it?

What's the point of taking art where the meaning and significance is apparent upon close inspection and sticking it on the side of a highway where everyone will zoom past and nobody has a chance to get an up close look? Seriously, what water ripples or fossils are people going to see while zooming past in their cars?

I'm old, get off my lawn, yada yada yada but frig I hate these things. I know I know, it's "art" but it looks like a hot mess. Rusty sticks and some rocks? What? And if it's supposed to be representative of First Nations, why not look at getting a First Nation's artist to design it (and there are some great ones out there), and then maybe it might actually look like something representative of the First Nations peoples. This just looks like it's supposed to represent Tinkertoys. It just looks like so much nonsense.

How is anyone supposed to even see this art. Why put it there? Where all the people passing by will be staring at their phones.

Why does our City care about International Trade Agreements? That seems most certainly outside of our realm of Jurisdiction.

Art is subject... i am in favor of public art... however, I am not a big fan of this piece....maybe the other part needs to be in place for it to make sense.

something like the Plensa piece in front of the Bow is pretty cool imo....i am assuming that was paid for by the developer, but was a condition of getting the development permit approved.

I'm not against $500k public art - I'm against THAT $500k piece of public art

After the blue ring debacle, the policy was overhauled to try and prevent this exact kind of thing, particularly having a larger citizen committee pick the artists and pieces. I'm surprised they'd pick something like this as a group.

Man, the city is bad at this. I think they need to stop this program, save the money for a bit, and sort it out.

Or, instead of spending the money on art, spend the money on arts education. The city could start an endowment at Banff Centre and support hundreds of emerging artists a year for the price of one of these projects.

Would probably be better for the city to fund the art college actually in the city.
