Should we temper our expectations for Valimaki or let them run wild? Do we have a Heiskanen on our hands here?

Yes, this and whether or not he plays Center. And why, or why not

Can the Flames take the next step with Geoff Ward having the interim head coach tag removed? Or will they stagnate?

What type of coach can we expect Ward to be? What systems? Does he like the blender? Does he like pairs? Is he all about special teams, or is he more a 5 on 5 guy?
Just who is this Geoff Ward dude?

I'd have to pull a Drax and go with
"Why is Sam Bennett?"

Yeah I would ask the Sam Bennett question myself. Put him as the #3 Centre and let him go as long as the health of the lineup permits?
Or do you move Lindholm in the middle and go with Lindholm, Monahan, Backlund, Ryan up the middle and try Bennet on the wing in the top 9?

The Flames have addressed the bottom 6 but not the top 6 at all. Is this a winning strategy?

What has happened when the Flames have forced a trade of a valuable player? I think you could look at the Doug Gilmour and Dion Phaneuf trades as examples.

That's a "good one".
- Nilsson - Win
- Hull - Loss (kinda cause we won the Cup with those secondary parts)
- Nieuwendyk - Draw
- Suter - Loss
- MacInnis - Loss
- Roberts - Loss
- Vernon - Loss
- Gilmour - OMG WTF
- Savard - Loss
- Fleury - Draw
- Phaneuf - Loss
- Regehr - Loss
- Bouwmeester - Loss
- Iginla - Loss
Jesus. Maybe we should just keep Johnny and Mony.

If the right trade isn't there, don't force one.

Nieuwendyk in decline for Jarome Iginla - BIG WIN, probably the best trade in franchise history
Fleury in decline for Robyn Regehr - BIG WIN

If the season is cancelled does that burn a year of a contract?
If there is some sort of 32 / 48 games season how does that impact contacts and cap management.
For instance:
The Flames have Valimaki and Dube who will be RFAs in 20-21 and play their ELC year in a throw away season.
Would the Flames leave Valimaki in Europe to save an ELC year? They thought the 2020 playoffs were not worth burning his elc year.
Lucic and Gio have only 2 and 1 years left of their their extremely non-value contracts.
Ryan is off the books. No sense in buying him out or giving away assets to get him off the cap in a "throw away season"
The Canucks miss out on a cheap elc year for Petterson and Hughes and a cheap year for Demko. But only have 1 year left for Loui Eriksson, Beagle and Roussel and are done with Sutter and Baertschi.
In a "throw away" year with only paying 80% (escrow) of half of the contracts it doesn't cost much to dump guys at the end of their bad contracts simply by keeping them.
The Rangers get out from under 6M of the buyout for Shattenkirk and 5.5 for lundqvist but lose a ELC year for 7 players.
Pretty well all teams have cap management problems and benefits from a season that doesn't matter.

Huh?
Giordano is a non value contract?

Like season's past, everybody was frustrated with the Monahan/Gaudreau pair, with their inability to raise their game come playoff time and how they seem to be unable to be play/offense drivers when games get tougher/more physical.
Management has done a substantial overhaul at the goaltending position, and on d (only 3 d starters from last year remain).
Without discussing the cap, lack of trade partners, etc, I would love a discussion/debate on whether this team can be a good playoff team with the same core forward group built around gaudrea/monahan?

Naw - Joe scored 18 playoff goals in back to back years going to the finals for the Stars, in addition to his regular seasons ~30 per. Dude was a #1 center who knew how to win. Draw to my mind.
Fleury was the franchise when he left. Reggie was great, but never reached that level.
Agree to disagree I suppose.

Tre was saying he wanted to give Ward the option to play Lindholm at centre, and Conroy was saying Bennett should play centre. Who will be the 3 top 9 centres to start the year and to finish the year in your opinion? Also will the Flames try to line match this season or try to roll 4 lines no matter the matchups?

I agree. We are lucky those prospects turned out, but the haul should have been greater. It was luck that those guys hit.
