Apparently the Terry Fator show is top notch. One of the best shows you can see in Vegas. We were going to try to get tickets, but he was off the weekend we were there.

When I was with my wife, we saw Phantom of the Opera (which was insanely amazing) and Zumanity. Both were really fun and entertaining, and Zumanity will make you guys laugh and smile lots.

We're going down this weekend, staying at Planet Hollywood.......no kids and a bunch of other couples, so looking for some shows to see. We've been once before, so I know some of the 'first-time' things to do/see. Sounds like 'O' or 'Ka' would be good choices, how about comedians, any must-sees? Also, the wife was wondering about the 'Price is Right' show at Bally's.......might be fun, but I don't want to go if it's super cheesy.
And has anyone gone into any poker tourneys on the strip? Looks like PH has 4 tourneys daily, so I'll probably play at least one there, just wondering what other places have nice poker rooms with tourneys that have decent prize pools.

How long are you staying for? Big convention in town starting on the Sunday/Monday. About 100,000 technical nerds from broadcasting in for the NAB.
I will be there Sunday for the week. Dinner at Morton's, and the Hard Rock setup and a party at Haze. Never been before but I won't have much time for fun, shows etc.

We're going for the standard 3 night/4 day trip, going to be there Sunday as well. I heard about that NAB convention, I didn't realize it was so big.

There was about 80,000 there last year and it was a slow year. Granted this is over the entire week. At its peak I think they were in the 150,000's.

Also, if you're in the mood for a good burger & beer : Stripburger, outside at the end of the mall by the Wynn/TI. Fantastic burgers, couldn't find it in frommer's though.

I read somewhere that ether and Circus Circus are a pretty good combination.
On a more serious note, Freemont Street is always a nice break/reality check after a few days on the strip. I've been recommended the prime rib dinner at the Golden Nugget and if there are any first timers they can load up on all the novelty Vegas crap they desire.
I'm heading there myself in about ten days with my girlfriend so I've also been checking out entertainment/food etc. A friend recommended the aquarium at Mandalay Bay and we might also check out the bodies exhibit. It's a little pricey but again I've heard great things.
If you want to watch sports and grab a bite hit the ESPN zone at the NY NY. The booths have touch screen tv's that allow you to choose between 12 games at once. If your table's hungry order the Tailgate Platter and get fat yo!

Hello CP braintrust, looking for some help here. My wife and I are heading down to Vegas for 3 full days in July of this year. Looking for some advice on meals.
We're already planning to hit the Mesa Grill for dinner one night. There's room in our budget for good food (I mean, I don't know if I want to spend like $200 for dinner ... neither of us are big drinkers) ... so we're looking for something that would be truly enjoyable.
Not really into sushi or Mexican. Asian-fusion type places would be good, and we also enjoy good steaks. I have read some really good reviews of Stripsteak at Mandalay Bay, wondering if anyone has been and can confirm or deny. We're staying at Wynn so it would be nice to eat a meal in the hotel we're staying at as well.
My family are all Beatles fans ... wondering if going to see Love would be a significantly better experience for us over say one of the "other" (cheaper) Cirque du Soleil shows.

There is no such thing as great food in Vegas - anything on the Strip is designed to take money out of tourist pockets with fairly mediocre overpriced fare. If you want good food, try Thai Village just past the Stratosphere, though be careful in that area. Otherwise, the Jewish deli at the MGM just next to the poker room is your best bet for reasonable food. Sorry if this is pessimistic, but I've been there many times, and tried many different restaurants, and it's all in the same vein..

while in NYC, we went to a Mario Batali restaurant, and the food was absolutely phenomenal. Surprisingly, it wasn't that expensive. Appetizers, main, dessert and drinks for two came out to $150 + tip
Never been to his restaurant in Vegas, but if NY is anything to go by, I'd give it a try
as for Cirque shows, go to their website, sign up as a member (its free) and they send you discounts and promos. Haven't looked lately, but I've seen Vegas shows discounted 50% up to a month in advance

I was at Craftsteak in the MGM (Tom Colichio's place) in December and it was phenomenal. The wine is overpriced, but it is at most nice Vegas restaurants. I ate at the Top of the World resturant at the Stratosphere last week. Everything was phenomenal. The service, food, wine and music were all great. The best part was being up 106 floors and looking out over Vegas. Our bill was $192 for two surf and turfs, asparagus, lava cake and a $54 bottle of wine. After dinner we walked up to the lounge level on 107. It was such a good time we went back to 107 Friday night for a glass of wine with a view.
There are a lot of great restaurants with the MGM having a bunch. It's all a little pricey, but no more than you'd find at a fine dining in Calgary. Most of the restaurants directly on the strip are for tourists, but if you go into the hotel and casinos there are great ones.

If you do go see "Love" there are two restaraunts right near by that are pretty good.
One is a Brazillian BBQ joint, and the other is B.B. King's which serves pretty darn good southern style BBQ. Neither is really "High end gourmet", but they're both really great food, at a pretty good price...assuming you're into various knids of BBQ.

WTF? You guys EAT in Vegas?
Eatins cheatin.
My advice is go straight to the Rhino, stay until your food money runs out. That shouldn't take long, but it's better than wasting cash on overpriced, average quality food they try to pass off as fine dining.

I was in Vegas last month and once again had a blast.
First time with the girlfriend, and it was definitely more expensive that going with the guys. We went to the Eiffel Tower restaurant at the Paris, and it was both phenomenal and very expensive. Had to do it with the lady, and while it cost more for one meal than it did for several before and after it was a cool experience. The wine menu had a bottle for $6000, but we opted for one under $100...thank goodness because I don't even really like wine.
Definitely check out a Cirque show. Again, I wouldn't have gone if it wasn't for the girlfriend, but I think I had a better time than she did.

Lotus of Siam is supposed to be one of the best Thai restaurants outside of Thailand and, if you're looking for sandwiches, you can't beat Cappriotti's. "The bobbie" is basically a Thanksgiving dinner in a roll and it's delicious. The celebrity restaurants are generally overpriced, but the food is good and it's not like you're there all the time, so it's worth trying a few of them. If you spend to much, just make up for it by hitting In-n-Out and Jack in the Box for a few delicious meals.

I've had several people rave about BLT Burger at The Mirage. I ate there and it was good, but not what a couple of my coworkers made it up to be (both said that it was the best burger they ever had). I preferred CheeseBurger, Las Vegas in the Miracle Mile Shops. I don't have much knowledge of fine dining in Vegas, I prefer to save money on food and eat at the less expensive places. If you're looking for some of those, I can help.

If you're planning on going to Vegas this summer and want to blow some of the lap dance/hooker/gambling money on going to a show, Cirque has a good deal right now. Tickets as low as $50
