Flightradar24 - live flight tracker
A friend just posted this on FB. We just messed around with it. Kind of cool.

Per the person she got it from:
Quote:
Have you ever wondered where that plane flying overhead is going and what type of aircraft it is? You are also going to be totally blown away when you see how many aircraft are flying in your area! You can see all the information instantly on your screen. On the map you will see the planes in the air. Click on a airplane, and on the left screen you will get all the info: airline, type, speed, altitude in real time and it is recalculated every 10 seconds. On some planes, you can also click on cockpit view for the view from the cockpit. (Google Earth Plugin required).

The few question marks I see are a little concerning!

If you're on a crappy work computer like me, don't move the map over New York, broke my browser but good.

Airport curfews. And I'd like an ATC game in this format using actual airports/locales. I used to enjoy a game called Air Command several years ago.

I don't know how accurate this is. There is a plane right next to Greenland right now that says it is a United Airline plane from Hong Kong to Ho Chi Minh City. Talk about the scenic route.
Edit: There is also one over Lake Ontario that says Reno to Vancouver, and other one flying east over Baffin Island that says Salt lake City ro Seattle.
Maybe I'm not using it correctly. Most of the other ones I am looking at seem logical though.

Real cool, I am amazed as to how many planes are on the go in such tight areas.
I think "from" means where the plane started its journey. I just saw one going edmonton to alaska now to calgary and from was montreal. Perhaps it initially went montreal edmonton, alaska, calgary.

It's an excellent program but sometimes it glitches stuff like that.
Also note that the yellow aircraft are shown in real time, the orange have the 5 minute FAA delay (stupid). Although someone in the YYC area has an ADS-B device that shows some of the aircraft in real time.

This is going to be interesting when I'm laying in my hammock in the summer, I-Pad on my belly, at my acreage southwest of the city.
Every four or five days, for some reason, I get a constant stream of airliners coming from the north at nought altitude, banking over my house to head east and then, a few miles further on, banking north to make their final run into the airport.
We'll see how "real time" this thing is.
I did enjoy watching a couple of planes landing at Kona Airport on the Big Island of Hawaii last night . . . . . thinking about my trip there in March.
