Probably the same as Rittich. The fact that Smith had a better game last night than Rittich has had in some time means that the coach is going to go with the hot hand as he should.

Quine should get the recall. He has showed the most at both AHL and NHL level. His effort level has been great and he managed some offense which we need in the bottom nine.

I'm not against Smith going in net, but opponent definitely mattered in the last two games.
Can just envision Smith in net against the Bolts with those patented flailing arm goals sitting inside the net.

Isn't there something about Quine can't play another NHL game with out us having to risk him to waivers should we need to send him down? Might be wrong.

Imagine so and that’s why we have been seeing Mangiapane, but if Neal is out until the roster limit goes away then it shouldn’t matter

Yup, Quine has earned it. 40 points in 33 games in the AHL and 4 points in 9 games here. Coincidentally, he went down at the end of December, just before when Bill said they started playing less defensively sound hockey. Probably no correlation, but he certainly helped their cause when they were steamrolling teams in December.

Yeah Quine has some waiver implications if he plays x games or is up for certain amount of days (IIRC). He will be one of the 4 recalls after the trade deadline when roster numbers don't matter.

I'm not upset about Smith getting this start. It's clearly a defensible decision and likely the correct decision. What I don't like is that Smith has been given more leeway over the entire season and Peters seems to have more faith in him than Rittich regardless of results. Giving Smith the start against Washington was a bad decision and then Rittich gets the quick hook two games later. Smith has never been pulled early despite giving up bad early goals often throughout the season. These things accumulate and could hurt Rittich's confidence. He has a sub-par game and that spirals further. Seems to be on the verge of mismanagement to me but Rittich has managed to bounce back throughout the year so Peters likely has a better bead on this than me. Time will tell.

Rittich has clearly struggled since getting injured and maybe a couple games for him to reset is what the doctor ordered.

Smith has had how many chances to " Get Going" this season? He had a good last game, would not say great, the Panthers are not a very good team, they missed a lot of chances that other teams probably would have buried against Smith. I am worried about Rittich recent play to, I hope Treliving, actively searching for some goal help.

It's idiotic. So if Smith somehow wins the game, does that mean he's now the starter that will carry this team the rest of the season?
We all know it's a matter of time before Smith blows up again and for me, this is only making matters worse as far as Rittich and his confidence is concerned.

Yes, that's my view as well. But Rittich has managed to overcome several previous decisions that I would think could have undermined his confidence. Hope that continues.

Smith hasn't been "going" since fall of 2017.

I'm hoping Foo gets recalled. I want to see what he could do on the 3rd line.

That's not true. Smith was playing lights out until he was injured last season.

How about all the other players in Stockton that have outplayed him all year?

No, it doesn't. It's not idiotic either to give the guy another start after he had the type of game that people complain he never has. And just days ago people were bitching about how Rittich never has time to work out his issues in practice because he always has to play. Now is a chance to do that.

Hoping if someone is recalled its someone we're all scratching our heads over as that would mean they aren't playing and Neal will back sooner rather than later.

I don't understand why people are so mystified by the difference in handling, nor do I get the outrage. Mike Smith is a +10-year NHL veteran, and David Rittich is a first-year NHL starting goalie. Their situations could barely be any different; the coaches are going to treat players in dramatically different situations differently. That's what is happening here.
