Icon31 Leafs acquire Jack Campbell and Kyle Clifford from Kings for T. Moore, 3rd, cond 3rd

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Hearing TOR/LA working on something involving Jack Campbell and Kyle Cliffoed

Leafs PR @LeafsPR
The @MapleLeafs have acquired goaltender Jack Campbell and forward Kyle Clifford from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for forward Trevor Moore, Columbus’ third round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and a conditional third round pick in 2021. #LeafsForever

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
That conditional third in ‘21 becomes a 2nd RD pick if either Clifford re-signs with the Leafs OR Campbell wins a certain amount of games .... Kings are guaranteed at least the 3rd Rd pick if neither of those conditions are met

Andersen down longer than anticipated and Campbell is a good back up. Better than what they have.

Toronto has a tight cap situation and those two players represent roughly $2.2 million in salary, although prorated it's a fair amount less. Still wouldn't be surprised to see a roster guy like Engvall be part of the return. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Hutchinson headed back

Moore? Interesting. That's not a huge return at all for the Kings. Moore is basically just Clifford with a little bit better scoring ability.

I like it for Toronto. Campbell is on a really nice contract.

Theft for Dubas considering how screwed he was cap wise.

I have to imagine the conditional third is based either on playoff success or Clifford re-signing.

Surprised to see that Campbell already has an extension in place for the next 2 years at an AAV of $1.65M.

Toronto has solved their goaltending issue for this year and next with this move. Not bad.

Seems like a great trade for Toronto.

Why is LA trading Campbell?

Cal Petersen is "their guy", so I imagine they'll be calling him up immediately...or so claimed a podcast I was listening to today I think, but god knows why as he looks pretty bad in the AHL but had really good numbers in 11 NHL games last season.

I thought Campbell was the Kings goalie of the future?

Is there some other guy coming up through the ranks?

Quick isn't going anywhere with his contract and play, and the Kings have Cal Petersen wanting time.

Campbell was fantastic last year, but this year has been below average. He's better than Hutchinson, but playing behind Toronto's blueline likely won't be much of an improvement over LA.

Have to see how he does before deciding whether the Leafs win or not.
