Default Flames sign James Neal (5 years, 5.75 AAV)

Bob tweeting earlier about it as well:

CGY and James Neal were working late into the night on a five year deal. Assuming it got done — it was headed in that direction but nothing official as of yet — it will be an AAV of around $5.75M

The Real Deal in CAL is approximately $5.75M AAV over 5

A year longer and $750k higher than I would have liked, but considering it’s a UFA signing, not too bad a all.

That more than replaces Ferland's grit! Well done Tre.

Smitty and Neal are good buds, so that likely helped too.

Length could be of concern but Neal is the kind of scorer with edge that bennett and tkachuk should learn from.

not a fan of the term at all, but it is what it is. Forward lineup looks a lot better than before the offseason, so I'm very happy. Flames should be able to roll 3 good scoring lines now and that should make a huge difference ... now if they could somehow get rid of Brouwer, it'd be even better.

I suspect BT has some small trades pending to get rid of a couple guys now....or the Heat will have the largest payroll in the AHL.

He just has to go. Gotta play some youth/speed and talent in our bottom 6. The bottom 6 is gonna be too good for him now with Neal forcing some re-slotting.

This deal may not look great in the last 1-2 yrs of the contract but the salary cap will also be up by then and worst case we can buy him out. Our window is in the next 4 yrs anyways because of the expiring gaudreau contract. I think this deal absolutely needed to be made and gives us a great veteran who can play on the edge and score. This is exactly what we needed. Im extremely pleased!!

UFA’s cost money, plain and simple. I think Neal will be a great fit. Super pumped with the current forward group.

He will replicate what Hossa did about a decade ago... Three straight years in the Final and finally win the Cup the third time around.

People were talking about Neal getting 6.5-7 and I bet he had those offers. He is choosing to come here for a lower AAV. That’s just awesome for this franchise. Pending it getting done, ####ing well done Brad.

Good God! This guy better not Brouwer us or we’ll run him out of town on a rail! I’m surprised at this one.

Salery cap should be North of 90 by the final 2 years. Deal wont be untradeable in the final 2 years.

BT has made serious changes to the team at a reasonable cost
