2018/2019 Trade Speculation and Rumors
Not a big rumor to start off this one.
Simon Depres is trying to get back into the NHL and is willing to start in the AHL.

McKenzie says Paccioretty might be the next player moved by the Habs.
https://frshockey.com/nhl/canadiens/...for-canadiens/
He also says Kovalchuk is probably holding up some trades, because some teams are waiting to see if he will sign with them before pulling the trigger.

That's all fine and good sureloss. Shouldn't the 2018/2019 Trade rumors thread start off where 2017/2018 finished off? I mean, can we talk about Sam Bennett's value for a moment here?

His value in a trade in the Speculation & Trade thread? Sure thing, go for it.

Does Kovalchuk have to wait until July 1 to sign? Is there anything stopping him from basically coming to terms with a team before the first and letting other teams know his intention?

I'm pretty leery of Kovy. He is 35 years old, last played NHL hockey in 2013 (albeit at almost a PPG and .3 GPG). His KHL goals and points last year were 31 and 63 in 53 games - what's the NHLe of that? Vollman says .8 but I'm skeptical.

Anyone catch Lou on 960 this morning? Sounded like speculation that Minnesota could move Dumba which seems crazy to me. Didn't they lose Haula & Tuch to protect him?

I agree it would be great to have Patches. Given that ahead of the trade deadline it was reported by Kipreos that the ask was “as many as four pieces: a first-rounder, a second-rounder, a warm roster body, and a top prospect.”, unless the price drops significantly I don't see Patches as a Flame.
Bergevin seems to be a loose cannon though so who knows what he'd actually accept.

They did, but new GM and Dumba's next contract might not fit into their plans. Fletcher also spent a lot of their picks and prospects. Trading Dumba would go a long way into recouping some of that.

Bergevin was asking something crazy for Pacioretty at the trade deadline. I can't remember the specific deals but there were a few and they were all the sorts where you go, no thanks.
But the that Galchnuyk & Domi trade happened so who knows.

I propose a contest,
how long can this thread go on before someone starts talking about Bennett's trade value?
That person should be held responsible!

I wonder what we could get for Bennett? Although his value is low imo.

I don't believe there is anything from verbally committing or having a handshake deal.

Still, it would be a little surprising with Suter's injury. It sounds like he may be in for a long rehab and there is some thought that, at his age, he may not be able to ever return. You'd think they would be looking to add on to their backend. Their bottom pairing is not going to be good.

Can't help but think Treliving will try to address the big need(s) around draft day. Seems to be his MO since he got here.
2014 draft he went after Bollig, trying to get bigger, tougher, more experience.
2015 he got Hamilton, huge trade.
2016 Elliott, felt like a great move at the time.
2017 Smith and Hamonic, another couple big moves.
So I do think we will see something this weekend. I think Treliving likely has an idea of whether Tavares has any interest in signing with the Flames (likely has zero interest) and also has spoken before how July 1 is when many GM's make their biggest mistakes.
Having said all that, I fully expect one of Brodie, Hamilton, or Hamonic to be moved for a top 6 forward.

Although standing pat wouldn't be the end of the world, I'm worried (mostly from an entertainment standpoint) that Tre does nothing at the draft. It seems picks are his currency of choice and without any, it seems probable he doesn't do much at the draft. I hope I'm wrong!

I'd be very surprised if Hamilton or Hamonic is moved, but I've been surprised before.
I would guess it's Brodie on the move for a youngish, cheaper forward who has top 6 potential but is somewhat established.
