I hope Ruzicka becomes a full time flame next season. He's looked good in camp and these past couple heat games.

Pospisil screams 4th line NHL player.
Big, ok wheels, hits, fights, enough skill to stick around.
Really like what I see in Ruzicka, Phillips and to a lesser extent Pettersen. I think there's some third line potential for all three guys.
Is Simpson anything? He's a UNB grad and I know they have possibly the best University program in Canada. Wonder if there's potential there.

Simpson is already 25 but is a good defensive guy... I like what I've seen from him on the PK. I don't think he has too much offense — the goals he scored today were good hockey plays but I think they were more due to his smart positioning than his skill.
He's a really big guy.

Eetu needs to get more engaged in the play. He's been the third wheel so far on his line with Pettersen and Pospisil. He's not playing with much physicality or presence and he's not contributing much of anything on the scoresheet.

So if Wolf is headed back to the dub, I assume that means Zary is also headed?

No, the WHL is still working with the BC government to finalize a return-to-play plan for the BC-based teams.
Until they figure something out, Zary will stay with the Heat.

As nice as it is to hear about these guys playing well, why does it seem Calgary never has that sure fire prospect to be excited about haha.

It is pretty hard to find those players where the Flames have been drafting. Once they start consistently picking in the top ten again you will get your wish.

Fair enough, tough to get excited about guys who might contribute one day to the bottom 6. Maybe its past trauma with this organization but even the Zary, Pelltier prospects dont get me super amped haha. I have trust issues

Most "sure fire" prospects don't spend much time in the AHL, if any at all. That's not just the Flames, but every team.
If you look at the top-10 NHL point leaders this season, Marchand is the only one who spent any significant amount of time in the AHL and I don't think he was considered "sure fire" at the time.

I have some issues with how the Flames manage their farm and graduating. Granted, players like Andersson, Dube and Mangiapane broke down the door leaving no choice but to have them on the main roster, the preference to veteran FAs over player like Phillips or Kylington irks me.
I'd rather insert youthful exuberance and the attitude to succeed and prove your worth at all costs into the line up vs, Simon Leivo, Stone, and so on and so on.
It's kind of the problem we all have with the Flames right? Lack of emotion? Thats where you tap into it right? Youth?
The vets should be the blow off valves to cover when/if the youth aren't succeeding and need a game or two watching from above.
I guess main issue with the build of this team is relying on retread vets instead of the kids in your system.

I suppose the past trauma stems from the Sutter years and the Young Guns era, but the Flames's drafting has actually been quite good more recently. I guess it could be tough to get excited about anyone drafted outside the top-ten, but for me it sure has been fun seeing diamonds-in-the rough like Andersson, Mangiapane, and Dube develop into quality NHL players. It makes me alot more intrigued about the likes of Philips, Ruzicka and Wolf, to say nothing for Pelletier and Zary.

I get the frustration about Kylington, but it was an extremely tall order to expect that Phillips would be given time on the NHL roster this early. He missed a bunch of games last year with an injury, and then struggled down the stretch when he came back before the shutdown. Phillips has since not played any hockey since early March; there is no way the Flames were going to have him starting in the NHL without a string of games in the AHL to get him back up to speed.

The Flames have played 2-3 rookies on the regular every year since Brent Sutter left. I think that can’t be a lot less than most teams.
