Ongoing power outage/emergency candle-lighting technique discussion
Anyone else in the SW just have a power and network outage? I'm with Telus for my internet. But the whole house just went out for a hot second, it was a bit of a shock.

Sorry I was running a test on my flux capacitor and overloaded the grid. Unfortunately I lost Frank the lab assistant, all that's left is a smoking boot.

Nerdy explanation:
When a primary line has a fault (keeping this general) there is a feature called a recloser which will wait a pre determined amount of time (~1-3 seconds) and re energize the line. This is usually due to higher resistance faults (tree falls on a line / crispy squirrel) which after the initial explosion, the fault usually clears (squirrel explosion). When the line is re-energized and the squirrel bits are far away, customers continue to get power while experiencing minimal down time. You can follow enmax power on twitter to see accurate power outages.
Sometimes reclosers have multiple shots, so you may see something like:
Initial fault
1 sec ->Reclose, line is energized
2nd fault
15 sec ->Reclose, line is energized
3rd fault, line does not reclose, crew is sent to investigate
This is why if you see a power outage in your house, power may come back once or twice and then go dark for an extended period

I won't explain how it happened, I'll only tell you that you are now missing your most valuable possession.

The servers running the power outage map must be having an outage as well.

It's not a supply issue. Something must be happening in the US. Both of the WECC tie lines are down.

Its undoubtedly the Police's fault. Somehow, somewhere a cop pepper-sprayed a powerline.

I cant find anything on US power outages in google news, but if we were importing power from BC and that line tripped, it could easily invoke an under frequency load shedding scenario (which to my understanding is what happened) which is a supply issue.

I just checked the AESO website. Supply adequacy is green across the board.
There is enough generation reserve.
