They were rumoured to be after Gardiner. Maybe a possible destination for Brodie now?

Doesn't this make the Stone contact look reasonable?
I for one never had a huge issue with the deal and think Neal is our only bad contract.
If he didnt get a blood clot and miss all that time I'm sure we could easily trade him.

I certainly think it's a palatable deal - especially with only one year remaining.
Stone is more than serviceable bottom pairing defensemen that can kill penalties. Being right handed with an absolute bomb won't hurt either.
I can't imagine he would have negative value.

And yet with Hamonic having a cap hit of 300K more the Flames seem to be shopping him as a salary dump.
Stone would bring back a AHL prospect if Bennett or at very least Jankowski were included in the deal.
Armia got sent to Mtl to for them to buyout Peters.

Hamonic would get a much better return, so if they are shopping him it's because of that.

Interesting that Winnipeg has let 2 (Chiarot and Tanev) of their top 3 hitters walk away this week. ricardodw has been telling us how butter soft the Flames are and yet his Jets can't get rid of their physical players fast enough.
I think the Winnipeg GM is pounding the panic button with both hands right now.

They aren't shopping Hamonic for a cap dump. There are rumours they are looking to re-sign him.
Now re-reading your post this is a clear troll job. Why do you hate things?

The facts you are arguing about :
1) The Flames are right against the cap with Tkachuk, bennett and Rittich needed to be signed.
2) They can't have the current roster of players and stay under the cap
3) If Hamonic and/or Brodie get traded it can't have any salary coming back or it makes no sense to trade them.
That IMHO is the very definition of a cap dump.
PS. If Brodie and/or Hamonic are not extended they will become UFAs that the Flames can't afford under the cap.

You forgot Trouba who is also a heat seeking missile.
The Jets were a much more physical team to begin with though.
Buff, Wheeler, Lowry are all very big players and can bang and also play a lot of minutes.
All 3 of those guys can dictate the play of the game physically. Flames only have Bennett who can do that and he's not exactly a big guy.
Jet's line up is also bigger with guys like Schiefle and Laine as big boys too.
Flames need to get bigger and tougher, but they can't sacrifice speed. It's a tough remake for Tre.

I am not worried about the cap. If anyone is traded, I think it will be for an asset coming back. IMHO a cap dump is trading a player and not get anything or similar value back (picks or player). Worse if if it costs the team assets to dump (ala Marleau).
Bottom line is that it is 3 days into the 2019-2020 season, there is lots of time left to sort things out. They have around 10M right now, which has them sitting around 20th is cap space. A few teams under them have 3 fewer players signed so I say they aren't in cap hell yet.

And because I love silly stats, Chiarot had more 5-on-5 points last season than P.K. Subban, Torey Krug, Drew Doughty and Kevin Shattenkirk.
^Oilers missed out on the best "Chia" available?!

I don't think its a case of WPG wanting to get rid of them. They just can't afford them for what they went for, and in Trouba's case, he was gone next summer anyway.

Yet the flames were a NTC away from trading Brodie for Kadri.
