Oh great, now Scorpion is going to irrationally vote for him early because he likes his underdogs.

I'm good with that.
Is that overall sentiment on timing?

Also a suggestion: Limit it to Top 20, perhaps? Do we really need debate on the merits of 29th to 30th?

What else are we going to do. That will happen in early august, and will be the only hockey talk around. Not to mention some of the players ranked that low become NHLers
2016
31. Rittich
2015
21. Andrew Mangiapane
23. Garnet Hathaway
2014
35. Josh Jooris

If you take Mangiapane off the list because he has graduated and Foo and Karnaukhov off because they're KHL defects, that makes the list 30 players long. That seems like a fine size.

Another way to look at who has graduated or not is to look at who played in the playoffs. - Mangiapane and Andersson played all 5 games in the playoffs = Graduated
- Valimaki played 2 games in the playoffs and Dube and Kylington played no games in the playoffs = Not Graduated
I think there's a very good chance that Valimaki, Dube, and Kylington have all played their last AHL games, but I also think it's perfectly fine for them to be put in the prospects ranking because they are still prospects who haven't fully established themselves in the NHL.

True, but Tyler Wotherspoon played 6 games in the playoffs and then couldn't make the opening roster for the next 2 years.
Other than that, it's usually a pretty sure-thing.

I think Foo should still be considered, as the Flames have his rights... I'd simply expect him to be WAY down at the bottom of the list.

Initially I thought the same but when you factor in age, the contract in Russia, etc - he's not a prospect much. Even if he returns he's now a journeyman pro and not so much a prospect.

If Foo is planning to stay in China through the Olympics, that's three seasons away. He'll be 28 then.

Guess I wasn't paying close attention, just learning the Flames don't have Joly's rights.

fair enough... I don't actually know how old he is... but I agree, there should be an age cut-off.

Can't break tradition.
Even when the list doesn't look as sexy anymore and doesn't require much rebuttal about your vote I just simply click on the player I vote and then get out of the thread after reading a few replies.

To me, I still feel Rafikov should technically be on this list, as he's 24. I know it's unlikely he comes over but Russians do start coming over around 25-27, so it's possible that could change.

I disagree. This list should be for prospects who have a realistic chance of playing for Calgary. Rafikov has pretty much no chance of ever playing for the Flames or being traded. He’s not in the Flames plans and they aren’t in his plans. He’s an easy guy to ignore. He’s irrelevant in my opinion, he’s not a legit NHL prospect of ours. The whole voting process is just confused by having guys like that on the list who are only “technically” related to the Flames but aren’t actually a legit prospect of the Flames.
