Dream ending for anyone's career, to win the Cup with your hometown club. Pretty sweet

I know I've seen it discussed before but it appears he only played in 13 regular season games and no playoff games. If I recall his name won't be on the cup, is that correct? Will he get a ring?
I wonder how players of similar ilk feel about being part of a Stanley Cup winning team? I would feel a little sheepish lifting the cup knowing I contributed next to nothing to the championship. Hard to say you're a legit Cup champion.

I think of it sort of like John Scott as an all star. Of course its not the same as a top guy, but he still worked just as hard to get to that position, trained every day with the team, practiced, etc. Those guys definitely push roster players to never take a day off, so I think he's very deserving of the "champion" title.

I guess it's nice to see a former Flame retire as a champion, even if he IS on the shortlist of worst Flames ever LOL

Good for him, he made a career in the NHL despite the haters and got to lift the Cup as part of a winning team.

Probably by being a consummate Pro, a great teammate and a serviceable NHL player.
He basically the poster-child of what NHL teams want in regards to depth defencemen. He can safely and steadily eat a few minutes.

His -7 game in a 9-0 loss to Boston on January 5th 2012 is as good a -7 game as you’re likely to see.

His only mistake here was getting played way too high up the lineup. He caught too much flak from the fans, myself included. Congrats on a good career Butler

No name on Cup. The ring is entirely up to the team.

A little Chris Butler story for you. A few years ago my sister and I went to a Flames Blues game that took place right before Christmas. Gio would tie the game up with 8 seconds left and I think they won in a shoot out. Anyway.
At one point in the evening, Chris Butler ices the puck three times in short succession. I turned to my sister and asked if she had ever seen footage of baby albatross attempting to fly for the first time and leave their nests. She said "No, why?"
I said "because some of the baby albatrosses fly better than others. And the ones that don't fly so good, well, they often end up in the belly of a tiger Shark. The ones that fly survive and reproduce, while the weaker chicks are a meal for predators. Natural selection, the circle of life and all."
Sister, unimpressed. "Uh huh. And?"
Me: "Were Chris Butler an albatross, and believe you me he is, he'd have been born in a zoo."
Farewell, pointy headed man.

Yeah, I guess the Black Aces have been with the team through the whole run and everything, so maybe they feel like they're fully part of the team, but I find it silly to see guys like Butler and Jordan Nolan out on the ice in full gear celebrating like the players who actually played the games. Sure celebrate the win, but wear your suit.
