That’ll piss Dundon right off. A lot of cash leaving within the next 13 months

This doesn't seem like nearly enough. Habs should have gone to the next compensation tier.

Why are people talking like he hasn't signed it? As far as I know offer sheets never become public until they're accepted by the player.

The biggest thing is why would the Habs announce it if it's not signed?

yup... aho has signed it...
forcing carolina to match it
smart putting a big chunk of the salary as bonus, a la Toronto's strategy

Compensation is 1st+2nd+3rd
|
That could make matching it more difficult for the Canes. But I have to think this is just an attempt by Aho's camp to get Dundon to give him the 5 years he wanted

Amazing -- this is right under the threshold for the next level of compensation

And that would all be in next year's draft, correct?

Habs hoping the signing bonuses turn Canes off on matching the offer sheet
Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun
Breakdown of Aho offer sheet:
$11.3M SB plus 700k salary in Year 1;
$9.87M SB plus 700k salary in Year 2;
$6.95 SB plus 750k salary in Year 3;

I think this is the high-water mark. Tkachuk comes in somewhere between Aho @ 5 x $8.5 and Meir @ 4 x $6.

Exactly. People are talking about offer sheets as if they're totally different from normal contracts. But they're just like any other contract that involves back and forth negotiation between the team and player, and once they agree on terms it's signed. Then the team that owns the RFA's rights gets the opportunity to match it.

I cannot comprehend Carolina not matching this and letting their franchise star walk for mid-range picks, only one of which is a first. They need to bite the bullet here.
