Surprised how many people like this signing given how much hate was around him at the trade deadline. Seems like an overpayment, but if the devil's have cap space it can't be that big of a mistake. If his poor play was due to nagging injuries that he is over, this could be really good. I am surprised he was able to get 5M, even for 1 season

One year is quite decent. That's ideal for a question mark like Simmonds

If you have the cap space I suppose it's not a bad deal. If he has a bounce back year they could move him at the deadline and turn the money into a draft pick or two. I can get behind this more than giving a player like this multiple seasons. If the Devils can work him in and the powerplay does well he could be useful because that's all he can do well at this stage of his career.
