Here's hoping none of the weekday games go into OT. I don't go to bed until after midnight CT anyway but if it goes more than one OT I'll be in rough shape the next morning.

And your solution for a national double header is to have it start at 3 PM Pacific and 4 PM Mountain from out East? So that they essentially cut out a 1/4 of the country from seeing the early game or most of it?

Makes zero business sense.

I mean....isn't this pretty much standard fare the last many years?
Look, Transplant, I don't really want to waste my time explaining to you what "anymore" means. This isn't the CBC days where they tried to put multiple games on one channel. Like I said, with eight channels available to them, late starts just can't be justified.

And yes, if you want to do a full doubleheader, the east should have to adapt just as much as the west does. If that means that supposedly "1/4 of the country" - more accurately, less than 1/6th - misses the start of an out of market game, so be it. Would be better from an audience capture perspective than having 2/3 of the country going to bed before our game even starts.

Keep in mind that paying customers here in Calgary are getting screwed to satisfy Toronto's ego. That is not something we should just be accepting of. Especially for a completely unnecessary 8:30 start on Saturday - where you could start Toronto earlier without taking away anyone's ability to watch the vaunted Leafs. Particularly since a game starting that late going to overtime means thousands of people will have to make a decision on watching the end of the game or risking having it end after the C-trians shut down for the night.

for me personally the 8pm home starts work out well. Throughout the year it was a race to get to the Dome and be in my seat for a 7pm puck drop. Sure it makes for a tough morning the next day but at least I will have time to pick my daughter up from daycare and help out a little bit before racing to the Dome to get some pre game drinks in. Saturday it doesn’t matter what time the game starts as long as it is in the evening. 8:30, 9, 10 I could t care less it is Saturday

While I don’t like that we constantly move our game times around, although in this case I love the 8pm (or later starts), always loved them for Saturday’s and right now they just work well for me personally, this is certainly the best way for SNET and the NHL to get the most eye balls on their games.

Overlapping channels divided the viewers and shortens the viewing window for the networks. And this isn’t about Toronto egos, it’s about the fact the Toronto fan base is about 6x the size of Calgary’s, so they are adjusting to their significantly largest fan base. Not saying it isn’t frustrating sometimes, but it’s the right business move for sure.

Let's not forget Rittich seemed to be a bit banged up in practice on Friday. Could be Peters just resting him for game 1 over letting him aggravate his injury in a meaning less game vs the Oilers.

What time do they hit the ice this morning? A bunch of questions should be answered then.

Is MGM a big NHL sponsor? They have an ice ad in the corner now.

They finally got rid of the tacky I <3 Oil and Gas logo.

Yes, MGM Resorts is the NHL's official sports betting partner: https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-mgm-res...ip/c-301392322

During the playoffs, the league has control over those advertising spots in the corners of the ice, so they'll likely be the same in every rink.

The Oil & Gas logo is still in one corner and I'm not sure what makes it "tacky".

Uh what? Flames showing support for the battered local economy, and it is tacky? Take a walk.

They still have that ad in one corner. One side is MGM & Amazon AWS. The other side is Subway and I <3 Oil & Gas I believe.

I take back my comments - Don't get me wrong I support the industry, I'm just not a fan of the logo.

Anyways if anyone is looking for a new hat for the playoffs.

I get everyone being nervous about Smith. Though he has played well he always seems prone to let in a softy. This team struggles to score in tight-checking games (thankfully the Avs are probably the best possible first round opponent in this respect), and one softy could mean game.

That said, he's been clearly better than Rittich for some time now, has more experience in general, and has playoff experience in particular.

Smith should absolutely get the start on Thursday, and he will.

I really haven't noticed this lately. I mean, there have been some "he could have saved that", but no "anyone would have saved that". The bad five hole goals in particular have been far less frequent.
