I fully expect Chiasson to revert back to the mean next year and become an overpaid 9 goal, 30 point winger.

Even if that happens, this is a pretty great deal.
I hate to admit it, but this was a smart signing. They know there's chemistry on the top line but he's still a serviceable bottom 6 forward if that doesn't work out. 2 year term is very palatable.

$2 m for a 9-goal/30-point winger is actually not a bad deal at all.

I like how Shannon said on SN that the Oilers were insistent on not going to 2 million but would give in on 2 years.

Not sure how this is a great deal, he is a PTO on any other team. He scored a bunch with McLotto but there are a lot of players that can do that.

the fact that there weren't a bunch of teams banging down his doors speaks to how other teams look at his past year...
he was what? 5th on the UFA forwards list for the Oilers?

What? Big raise for McDavid bouncing picking in off his shins. Guy was a PTO less than a year ago

Remember Warren Young. He was an old AHL veteran who got tapped by the Pens to play on Mario's wing and put up over 40 gals and 72 points, and leveraged that into a huge free agent deal with Detroit where he fell off of the map.
This is Chiasson, he plays on the wing with McDavid and lights it up early and then goes cold in the second half of the season, he choked away a huge free agency payoff.
But he's a nice guy

When you strike out on virtually every free agent you’re linked to there’s nothing wrong with Chiasson.

Were other teams offering him over $4 million over two seasons after having zero interest in the player last offseason? I don't think this is a great deal as if he's not on McDavid's line he's a replacement level player. It's why the Flames let Hathaway go as you can't pay these guys this kind of money.

His three year average before last season was 19 points, not 30.
A good team doesn't have many wingers that score less that 20 points, especially at age 28. Those that make the roster do so because they bring other intangibles such as strong defensive play, great penalty killing, physical presence, leadership, upside, etc.. I just don't see any of those in Chiasson.

I’ve always like the $100k/point way of thinking. So I’m happy to have him. Hope he can keep banging them in.

He better or he’ll have to deal with Nicholson raking him over the coals in the media.
