Making a QO of $19m to Stripling is looking like it would have been a solid decision. He likely wouldn’t have taken it but would have come with a compensatory pick or you get a solid arm for $19m on a short term deal if he signed it. He also seemed like a popular guy in the dugout.

Yeah - if you're adding that one piece that will take you over the top to bring in a superstar, maybe, but at this point the idea is to bring in a perennial winner season after season. Can't be trading away all your high end prospects.

I really don't want to trade Tiedemann either, but for a prime aged, switching hitting CFer projected for 4 WAR I think I'd be OK with it.
Especially if the Jays can land Senga and maybe even another SP like Heaney, etc.
If they did all that the team would be miles better than it would if they kept Tiedemann who might not even pitch in the majors next season, and this a team trying to win now after all.
Plus they'd still be sitting on that catcher surplus too.

I’m willing to move Tiedemann but it has to be for a game changer and I don’t see that in Reynolds. I’d rather address CF through free agency and save Tiedemann for potential trade capital. This would remind me a little bit of the Berrios trade where we gave up some excellent trade capital for a good but not elite player. Had we kept SWR and Martin and combined them with Groshans and Martinez we might have been able to get a guy like Luis Castillo.

Tiedemann for Reynolds…no.
Have we not learned yet that we need arms over bats? Tiedemann can and will help us in 2023. OF’s are far easier to come by, teams don’t hold them as tightly as high end SP’s
If the jays make a trade like this I would seriously question the foundation of the leadership of this franchise.
Martinez for Reynolds? Yes, that would be fine.

This completely! Gotta work with your pitching talent when you see the potential. There isn’t much else in the pipeline and he seems like high quality. Can’t give that up for a non elite talent or position where second rate will do.

Depending on the contract I'd take Gallo and either replace Gurriel or use them in a platoon. Gurriel will end up hurt at some point anyways.
Nice power from the left side, and I bet the banning of the shift will help a pull hitter like Gallo.

Scratch Bellinger off the list, sounds like he's going to the Cubs, per Heyman.

I’d say the Jays should be 50/50 on batting pitching. Definitely relief needs help but to be championship calibre they need to upgrade all SP/RP/Batting. Dunno why there’s a specific focus on batting. But reading the tea leaves I don’t think they’ll deal Kirk. So that leaves Jansen or Moreno. Again, I’d keep all three for another year but I suppose they need to do salary for salary to make it work.

Yeah for good or bad reasons I think Toronto still has a harder time signing FAs. They just have to pay a big premium in term and/or salary. Whether it’s taxes, the cold, being in another country or so on it’s just tough to get people to commit up here without trumping other offers. Never heard of someone taking less to play here.

There is no state tax in Texas. So even though Toronto offered more his take home pay in Texas is a hell of a lot more.

Just a heads up. Jays ticket presale including the opener on sale now! PITCH. Got tickets to the opener. 500 level but not complaining. Quite a few remaining. Didn’t want to spend $80 for the outfield. Should be fun like all home openers.

I hope Gallo isn’t the buy here. He’d be a detriment if anything. Bench, sure, flyer. Also Kenley signed in Boston. Would have been a great back end with him and Romano. $16M per for two seasons. Nice deal.

Where do you see the news about Gallo from Heyman? It doesn’t look like it’s on his Twitter feed.
