Default Wifi Boosters?

Hi,

I get little to no wifi signal on my phone in my bedroom but my laptop receives signal just fine. This leads to me using more data on my phone than I should. Are there any products you would recommend that could help solve this issue? Thanks in advance.

Is you router near a computer, so that you can log into it and check the wi-fi signal strength of the different devices connected? If you can, then leave your phone in your room where you would like it to get better wi-fi, and try re-orienting the router's antennas or moving the router around to see if the wi-fi to your phone improves at all. This may have an adverse affect on other devices that rely on the wi-fi though.

I use WiFi Analyzer on my Android, that might help you determine the best location for the placement of your router.

Try changing channels on your router.

Somewhat off topic; I have my modem/router downstairs in my electrical box cabinet. It is Telus equipment. We really don't spend any time downstairs. Typically in the evenings, our XBox loses it's signal while we are watching Netflix upstairs and the damn thing keeps cutting out losing the wifi connection.

Are we able to get our own modem to solve this or should we call Telus? I figured if we call Telus they'll just set us up with another piece if crap.

I used a DIR-645 WIRELESS N300 GIGABIT ROUTER WITH SMARTBEAM™ TECHNOLOGY to resolve these issues that I had with the ISPs proprietary WiFi router.

In another thread regarding a similar situation I mentioned that this worked well for us:

I have the exact same router connected with my telus internet. My netflix/phones/laptops don't have a problem connecting or getting signal now. I can also get WiFi on my deck and in my garage

I also got one of these to extend the signal from upstairs down into my living room. I don't think it's what you need but I can connect 3 ethernet cables to it for a stronger connection. I bought it for my new receiver

These are good routers. I bought the DIR-868L when it went on sale at Memory Express during their boxing week sale:

Great router, loving the dual band. Only thing that has surprised me a bit is I also got Apple TV for Christmas so I attached it to the 5Ghz band. Doesn't get a strong connection. I realize that 5Ghz can't pass through walls as well as 2.4 but I also put my iPad on the 5Ghz and it has full signal in the same room as the Apple TV.

Maybe I just need to try moving it around a bit.

Reviews on this line of routers weren't great but they seem to think that after a firmware upgrade they could be pretty impressive. Not sure why the bad reveiws though tbh, I've had no issues with mine at all.
