I had a lily randomly spawn on my island. I looked it up and it only happens after you get 5 stars. I also got the gold watering can recipe. I guess you use it on black roses to get gold.

For the black roses to gold roses and the gold watering can, what I've seen in a few places is that only the rose in front of you gets counted as being watered by the gold can, all the ones on the sides don't. So you have to water each black rose individually.
On the flip side if a square has been watered once, it doesn't count against your can's durability if it gets watered again.

For those interested in trying to get a villager to give you their portrait (requires high friendship), here's all the info on what gets you the most friendship points.
I didn't pay much attention to this but I guess with high friendship they'll give you a gift in exchange and hoarding stuff is what I'm all about in this game so I'll probably give some of this a try, at least the easy stuff.

Is the only way to get all the fruits to visit other people islands or will I eventually get mystery islands with them. My native fruit is peach and I have only ever had Oranges on a mystery island.

As far as I know you only get your own or sister fruit from a mystery island, the others have to come from other people.
I thought about trying to get them all but the non-native fruit sells for 500 each regardless of species, so I'm fine with only apples and oranges.
Which is weird because I'm irrationally driven to have my own copy of every fossil or make sure I have one of every egg or outfit, but for some reason I don't desire every kind of fruit tree.

I'm ok with that if that's how they want to play, it's like playing Minecraft on creative mode.. just wanting to see what you can create.
Yeah that's more my jam. I'd rather be playing around with custom designs and buying furniture to see how I can make my island. I don't care about a lot of the seasonal stuff or completion status.

How much money do you bury when in the money holes to grow a money tree. I think I was reading an old article that said you could bury up to 99k but when I shook the tree I only got 10k per bag...

There is a nook mile achievement for planting each fruit, that is the only reason I want all of them. The cherry trees do look cool though.

You can bury up to 99k and sometimes you'll get 3 bags of 99k each, but simetimes you'll only get 3 bags of 10k each. For a little while people thought you could find the pattern for your island, figure out which days would be 99k days and which would be 10k days, but that was later debunked and it's just random.
I just put in 10k but I may just stop doing them and just use them as decoration.
