Now I know what I'm getting with the money I didn't spend on a Switch.

Figured this would be as good a thread as any -

Looking to switch back to PC after the last 10 or so years on a Mac, so needless to say I haven't followed hardware in a while.

Would like to piece one together from MemEx vs getting a pre-built one from BB or something.

If I wander into MemEx would they put together some suggestions for me? Not looking for anything fancy, just something that will last a while (and that I can actually upgrade) and won't choke on Lightroom or editing GoPro video.

Alternatively if any CPers have thoughts on a decent build the help would be appreciated.

My advice would be to let Psychnet respond with part, then print the prices from newegg or similar website and THEN take it to Memory Express so they can match pricing and throw it together for you.

That 1080 Ti looks great and would really compliment my Omen X 35 (when it comes out). I'm just trying to sell my GTX 1080 and hopefully use that money to fund the 1080 Ti.

1080Ti reviews are out, might be my next upgrade. Looks like 4K gaming has finally arrived.

Question for the PC experts here: I have been reading about the recommended specs for Mass Effect Andromeda, and it looks like I'm in good shape. I just wanted to know if it's worth downloading MSI Afterburner or MSI Gaming App for my video card (1060 Gaming X 6 GB), or if it'll run things just fine without them installed? I actually haven't played anything super intense on my computer yet so I don't know what's going to happen.

I've used the MSI Afterburner before (with my ASUS cards heh) to tune my fan speeds, I found that with my case I didn't need as high a fan speed as was default to keep things cool, and I hate noise, so I'd tune my fan speeds to be lower than default. Also used it to do some mild overclocking.

But if you're not interested in overclocking or tuning your fan speed or monitoring your GPU temperatures or anything like that then you're fine without them.

I'm looking to get one too. The only negative is my second monitor needs DVI to display 1440p. Hopefully the EVGA FTW3 has it.

I've been looking at updating my PC for a while now, I do like the compact PC's. Any reviews or ideas on this setup?

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX65056

I do like MSI as own a laptop from them and have zero issues.

I was all set to rip into it but after looking at the specs, I'm actually mildly impressed. Looking forward to seeing what others say about it.

The "What stance will you choose" was pretty LOL worthy though.

Why do manufacturers think that gaming = wacky angles and edges and edgy colours and crap. Make a case that can only lie flat because it's a rhombus, then make a stand for it?!

Gaming laptops, gaming monitors, stop it MSI et al.

I'm not the most computer savy person so building it from scratch seems like a bit of a tall order.

Does CP have a braintrust that could build a better computer for roughly the same amount? I need help!

If you're in Calgary/Edmonton, then Memory Express will mount the chipset onto the motherboard for you.

The rest of it is literally plug and play.

Try this site to give you some ideas and put something together at your price range.

Memory express should match any prices if they carry the part.

Memory Express will install everything (and the O/S and drivers) for $75 if you buy the parts there. If you're at all unsure about assembly (like I was), then just get them to do it.

What he said. If you don't know what you're doing, just pay Mem Ex to do it for you...when you're spending over $1000 on a computer, what's an extra $75?

If they break something, they replace that part cause it's their fault.
