Canadian soldiers will soon be deployed on a peacekeeping mission in Africa and among the anti-malaria medications being made available is a drug called mefloquine. Of the three malaria prevention treatments in use, it's the most controversial. Short term use of the drug appears to cause startling side effects including night terrors, agitation, mood swings, panic attacks and hallucinations. Suicidal thoughts have also been reported.

The long term brain damage is frightening because it basically causes PTSD. The US special forces stopped using this garbage completely.
So we're going to send out troops to a feel good peacekeeping mission that I feel is not only going to be incredibly dangerous but is going to make the casualty count in Afghanistan look light, with a military that is frankly still recovering from over use in Afghanistan and is ill equipt and ill prepared, but we're going to shoot them with a dangerous drug.
Way to look after your troops Canada.
I want no part of UN peacekeeping missions, they're a sh%% show failure every time and the UN continues to show incompetence and stupidity in implementing them.

I have said this before, but what is the point of having troops is you can't abuse them.

I figure if we're going to do this we might as well go all the way. Give then the drug and nice agent orange shower and then shoot them at the airport before they take off. Its better for the taxpayer.

Shoot, I would rather we slowly give them lead poisoning like in the good old days.

I really hope that Justin gets his UN Accolades and hugs and shoulder thumps in a quick period of time so he can check this stupidity off of his list and move on to something else.

The PBO that Trudeau used so effectively against the F-35 and the Conservatives is now going after the government and DND about their lack of openness on the Navy construction and the SuperHornet "Interim purchase"

As a tax payer I would be much more interested in how much extra all this infighting over which planes, helicopters, fighters, boats, etc are costing me. I would have to imagine if we just stuck with the original deals, we'd probably be millions if not billions in cash and man hours saved vs. all this political garbage going on. I would like to think that when they start these deals that the person in charge knows what they are doing when they select the platforms and trust them to get the best equipment for a reasonable price.

The Canadian military is looking to replace its Second World War-era handguns but it could take up to 10 years for all of the new pistols to be distributed to the troops.
Replacing the 1940s-era Browning handguns has been on the Department of National Defence’s procurement list for years.
But now the purchase of new guns appears to be moving ahead.
Still the Canadian Forces figures if the purchase is approved – and there are no delays – it won’t have all the new pistols in hand and being used until 2026.
The military plans to conduct a survey later this year to determine what the role of handguns might be in the future Canadian Forces.

hahahahahahahahahaha
I found the Browning was great for putting on papers so they didn't fly away in the wind.

I mean to be honest, if the fighting gets into pistol range, your kind of doing it wrong.
And 10 years for procurement, and at some point, we'll decide on the pistol and the new government will say, why do we need the cadillac of pistols, we're going to open a whole new purchasing process for these pistols and weigh the options.
Then 20 years down the road, the winner will be the Browning 9 mil.

You are the last person I would have ever expected to answer this way. The browning hi-power is an antiquated POS. FFS why can't our govt outfit our troops with something that isn't WWII vintage??? How about the friggin Sig P226 that Naval boarding crews use???? No that would make too much sense.
If fighting gets within pistol range you're doing it wrong? That will happen, and d it happens to our troops, i want them to have the best equipment to win.

The governments inability to give our troops decent equipment is almost comical. At times, it almost seems like a deliberate attempt to be incompetent.
I agree with CC, the Browning is a nice pistol.....for its day. Much better available now. How the hell are they even servicing these things?

I don't disagree with anything you've said here.
I liked the Browning for some reason, I was good with it, I liked the heft and it made me feel all manly and stuff.
I was kind of joking about the second part of doing it wrong, its an opinion that I get all too often from friends when we talk about this stuff.
