Default Panthers 5 Flames 1

Panthers 5 Flames 1

- Flames loose defensively, turning too many pucks over
- Stolarz stones them when they did get chances
- Miromanov solid in his first game
- Sharangovich with goal #26 on the season

Weird game, as we were let down by out two best dmen and out-goalied.

That won’t happen very much I expect.

I have the Flames drafting 14th, as they lead the 3 tied teams due to more RW. But it’s so close as they a 3 points out of 8th.

Get used to it folks...this is what we are going to see more than not for a long time.

Its what happens when you gut 1/2 your defensive starters from opening night.

Likely right, we cannot expect Marky to be a miracle worker every night.

Weegar and Andersson don't work well together. They're each prone to the odd gaffe and when they do make that gaffe, the other one is usually not in a position to bail them out. Maybe they both need a steady, more reliable partner.

Like who? Until these new dmen developed, they have no other reliable dman

The defense is going through growing pain now but that is expected

They traded those two steady, more reliable dmen.

What are our playoff odds after the loss to the Panthers, Bingo.

With the Vegas win last night the Flames would need 97 points to make the playoffs (potentially 96 if they won the season series against Vegas).

To do that Calgary needs to go 14-3-2 for .789 win percentage.

Flames dropped 5% and are at 27% chance to make the playoffs.

Locks
Canucks 100%
Stars 100%
Jets 100%
Avalanche 100%
Oilers 99%
Predators 90%
Kings 80%
Golden Knights 71%

Done
Flames 22%
Blues 16%
Wild 12%
Kraken 10%
Coyotes 0%
Blackhawks 0%
Ducks 0%
Sharks 0%

Are you sayings it’s because we played the 1st pair too much and they got tired?

Because the new guys looked fine and it was the vets who seemed to cough up the puck to my eye. And give aways were spread out all game.

There were lots of brain farts and a few chances that should have been buried. None of which were the new guys.

I don’t think Calgary has a 27% chance of going 14-3-2. Something does not compute.

A good afternoon for those who cheer for losses. A sort of predictable outcome after the stress of the TDL with an afternoon game (and limited prep time).

We have reached the point where the Flames really need to topple their way down the standings. Probably won't happen though.

I still remember late in the 2012/13 season thinking the same thing, and consoling myself with the hopes of watching Mackinnon skate around in the Flaming C for the next 10+ years.

Not my model, but I'd agree.

I guess if you're the team with the 9th best record you have the best chance if another team completely collapses.

Moneypuck has them at 12%.

I'd even think it's closer to 5%

I wish I knew! The remainder of the season will give us a read on the new D-men. Plus we'll have to see what Commie has in store for the Flames in the off-season.

They are the Flames two best defencemen but their styles don't appear to mesh all that well, IMO. The pairing is less than the sum of their parts.
