That's actually not true. Only six cars in total and only on older tests as they've changed. All six cars were slower, less passenger capacity and were treated as much poorer cars in non safety measures. Also, every single one got worse safety reasons for newer models on the same tests tesla got

NHTSA changed their tests in 2011 and there are literally hundreds of cars that get 5 stars overall. There are less if you include the rollover test but there's still a number of them. Honda has three of them, with the Acura RLX, TLX and two door Accord coupe.

Which is as relevant to crash testing as range, time to recharge and reliability.

Yet..

In 2011, NHTSA made its test more stringent, as most vehicles were coming through the program with 5-star ratings. That is not the case now. And yet, Tesla Motors says that based on the overall Vehicle Safety Score provided to manufacturers, the Model S achieved a new combined record of 5.4 stars. Separately, Tesla Motors had a roof crush test performed by an independent facility, whose machine failed before the roof was compressed. Tesla claims the proven protection is equivalent to stacking four Model S vehicles on top of the test car.

Because the NCAP is more rigorous than the prior system, most of the 30 vehicles tested have seen their star ratings drop. In fact, the only two 2011 models to retain five-star safety ratings are the BMW 5 Series and Hyundai Sonata

Why aren't people on here raving about the Skoda Fabia or the Nissan Pulsa? Oh right, fanboys.

Green text? Can't tell if SRS. How about a Dacia Sandero?
For the record, the only Tesla I've liked is the Roadster. The technology is interesting but the styling in the Model series is seriously not to my liking.

We should probably make a Skoda thread, so Peter12 can complain about rent seeking Euro-socialism.

I count about 18 cars that got 5 star ratings in Euro NCAP in 2014:

Here's the list of sedans+coupes that have undergone crash testing using the 2011+ NHTSA standard. There are hundreds of 5 star overall ratings, somewhat fewer 5 front and side and a small number of cars that get 5 star front, side and rollover.

This is another example of Tesla PR blowing something that is good completely out of proportion.
If 4X weight is amazing, what does that make the Honda Odyssey which is capable of withstanding 5.87X its own weight:
http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/veh...dyssey-minivan
I'm not saying the Model S couldn't withstand more, but crowing about breaking a machine with just 4X weight is pure PR since essentially every new vehicle today will withstand 4X its own weight.

NHTSA is testing done by the US government agency, NCAP is done by the Europeans. By 2014 many cars were capable of 5 star ratings in both though due to different markets you'll only find some vehicles well tested in both.

Even when they come out with cool stuff, I just can't get excited about Apple or Tesla anymore. Their products need to come with a pack of Kleenex for the inevitable cleanup required after being unboxed by their typical consumers.

A bit more unfortunate news about Tesla. More on the employment practices side of things. Was kind of expecting better from Elon Musk.
http://www.breitbart.com/california/...ifornia-plant/
"But a lawsuit from an injured construction worker on the Fremont plant has exposed Tesla as hiring a foreign contractor in 2015 to ship 140 workers from impoverished Croatia and Slovenia to build a new paint shop at Tesla’s Fremont plant.
The Bay Area News Group, after dozens of employee interviews and extensive review of the contractor’s payroll, visa and court documents, concluded that the Eastern European contract employees “work long hours for low wages, in apparent violation of immigration and labor laws.”
The contractor for Gregor Lesnik of Slovenia allegedly claimed on his application for a United States B1/B2 for “Nonimmigrant Visas for Tourism and Business” that he would be a management supervisor for a South Carolina auto manufacturing plant.
Although the federal law governing B1/B2 Visas specifically states, “These provisions do not apply to an alien seeking to perform building or construction work, whether on-site or in-plant,” Lesnik was shipped directly to Fremont, California where he allegedly joined 140 Eastern Europeans being paid about $5-per-hour, in 10-hour days, six and sometimes seven days a week as laborers to build Tesla’s paint shop."

I suppose I'll play my role and defend Tesla here.
These were contractors. Tesla has already shown the sub-contracting agreement with the construction company having an hourly rate of $55.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/18/11...alary-employee
It's not a conspiracy to say the hit pieces against Tesla are coming hard and strong, which is not to suggest they should not be held to a standard, but the news org that ran original report on this story has already published a follow up piece further explaining the situation.
Quote:
A Tesla contractor said Wednesday it may terminate its relationship with a Slovenian company that records show paid as little as $5 an hour to workers expanding the electric car company's Fremont plant.

Why do people cite articles from Breitbart as though it's a real news site?
