I think Bautista only threw 3 actual strikes but the Jays swung at everything outside the zone.

Maybe they actually make a worthwhile trade during the season for once. This team does not have the batting depth nor good enough bullpen to be elite. Potential is there but this group needs several additions. We shall see

Not a good stretch against teams that they have no choice in finishing ahead of in 4 months.
They are missing some swagger IMO. It can't be all Vlad, and last year it was also guys like Gurrieal and Hernandez that had that element that isn't around now it seems.

Chapmans scorching hot start hid the flaws of this lineup early on. He was always going to come back to earth and other guys have not gotten going. Varsho has been absolutely horrific, Vlad’s power is down and Bichette is now in a slump. I hope Varsho turns it around because that trade is looking terrible.

I think the hitting will likely come around but the bullpen is going to remain a serious problem for this team. They have a lot of arms that are solid 7th inning guys for other teams but Garcia, Swanson, and Romano is not good enough to shut teams down regularly. They’ve traded away many of their top prospects and might continue to lack the assets to fundamentally address their problems.

Prediction: Barriera and Tiedemann (assuming he gets healthy again) are traded this season.

If they deal Barriera or Tiedemann unless it’s for an elite talent would be a fireable offence. How are they supposed to produce a perennial contender if they do that stuff year after year and not get elite talent back? Anyway, I know it’s a prediction but as a fan I’d be super pissed as Shapiro sold himself as someone who wanted to do that. I’d honestly put the chances at under 10% of them going that direction with nothing but those two in the pipeline.

It's early but pretty concerning to see us dead last in the AL East.

Let’s face it. The batting lineup just has to sort itself out. I don’t think management has any intention of moving any of them. Three things I see them NEEDING to make changes to:
1) bench. Each and every one of them are junk. Espinal hasn’t cut it this season. They need to get legit pinch hitters
2) starter. Preferably a typical #3
3) long reliever or set up man

I also think Schneider has mismanaged speed. They have a nimble enough lineup to go a little more often. And if they don’t go, they could push pitchers a little by faking. Very irritating to see good talented players giving opposing pitchers the easy way out.
