I think last nights game was a preview of the final, hopefully Seattle can keep it a bit tighter when they meet again.

Well, this crazy tournament continues to deliver the unpredictability.
The Remparts may not have brought their A game last night, but the Pete's certainly did. They got some bounces, but they made a lot of them happen with a tenacious forecheck that gave the Remparts trouble. I guess the takeaway is don't count out a championship team when their backs are to the wall.

Now, tonight's game is huge. Winner goes to the semifinal; loser plays Peterborough in the tie-breaker to be the second team in the semi. Biggest game of the season for the Blazers. The stadium will be rocking tonight.

I picked up a ticket for tonight's game.

This should be a good one!

I just want a WHL team to break the slump and finally win the Cup.

Woof.
Tough to watch the Blazers not show up on a big stage tonight.
Ernst kept it from being 6-1 after 1, but it ended up that way eventually.

Well, crazy tourny gives them another chance for another chance.
Lol
I'll be there again tomorrow.

Tie-breaker night!
As a fan all you can ask for is another game.

Darn, Blazers led 4-1 in the second only to lose 5-4 in overtime. Okay, Seattle the WHL’s hopes rest with you now.

Well, Blazers are done, and to quote a friend, they got what they deserved.

They were the 4th best team in the tournament, and the result is to be expected, although it didn't stop a bunch of us from believing in something different.

Ah, well. The cream rises to the top, and this weird tournament has a way of settling matters.

Highlight of the night off-ice was getting meet Shane Doan and watch a bunch of the game with him. Nice guy, passionate owner and Blazers fan, and all-around ambassador for the sport.

Yesterday, I blunderd into meeting Hnat Domenichelli. Great guy; I told him I was a Flames fan and he laughed and said, "You must be old". Him and I both, right?

These alumni are really great. Every single one I've met has all day to talk to fans, help people, and generally just be real. It's pretty cool to be in a small stadium and be surrounded by a who's who of sports royalty, and every time you cross paths with one of them, it is a great experience.

Clara Hughes
Jarome Iginla
Shane Doan
Patrick Roy
Hayley Wickenheiser
Mark Recchi
Daryl Sydor
Hnat Domenichelli

And many more in the building for sure.

2 more games to go. I'm sad to see the Blazers bow out, but there is still a championship to play for.

Let's go!

Yep. Tough loss.
Team was tight all tournament.
I bet they are gutted right now. They really are a better team than they showed.

Gave my tickets to last night's game away to spend some time with the family. After 6 games in 7 days and the disappointment of the Blazers' meltdown, I needed a reset.
Looking forward to the Final on Sunday.

Forgot to watch, but it seemed pretty uneventful based on the score.

Quebec just continues to do what they do.
Seattle is a good team, but not good enough.

We had a good time tonight, drank more than a few beers, enjoyed some company, and watched the Remparts continue to simply be who they are.

Some Memorial Cup takeaways:

Kamloops did a great job as a host city. Volunteers were everywhere, and the community stepped up.

The level of play in this tournament is legit. Too many great junior players to count and a good number that will make an impact in the NHL.
Maletesta, Guenther, Lambert, Stankoeven, Zellweger. There are more, but you get the idea. It's a showcase for young talent, and they came to play.
Overall, a great event and I'm glad to have been fortunate enough to take it in.

So not watching much QMJHL, are they underrated? They're won the last 4 Memorial Cups but their players don't often get considered for Team Canada or are high draft picks. Is it the team system they play? I think 2 Q players went in the firs round last year, in a draft hosted in Montreal!

I can't comment on the Q in general as I don't follow it either, but the Remparts are full value. They were the best team in the tournament, full stop.
The fact that Seattle had two cracks at them and couldn't make a game out of it says a lot.
They play an NHL-style system with total puck support and high pressure checking. Their goalie is solid all the time.
I never once saw them on their heels or scrambling. They look like a pro team.

The Halifax Mooseheads, who lost to Quebec 4-2 in the Q final, would have beaten all of the other teams at the Memorial Cup this year.

Looking at the u18 national championships, A Q region team has made the final every year since 2014. The last 2 years, its been all Q region teams in the final.
