As for bike damage I’d also be asking if the frame has one obviously damaged area, could there be others and how safety critical are they? I would suggest visiting a couple bike shops and get one of the long term Managers opinions. If you need names of specific people at Bow Cycle PM me.

Thanks Richie. Mentally I am definitely a lot more wary and staying on paths only, whereas before I was pretty adamant about cycling on roads whenever possible. Definitely some PTSD/trepidation there. Mainly I want to get back into shape and am looking to fix or get a new bike.
I spoke to a few people on the floor at bike shops but they've mainly said they are not carbon experts and I need to talk to a specialist carbon bike repairer.
If you know someone specifically at Bow Cycle that might have experience in this area, that would help. I will PM you.
Also to everyone else, thanks for the well wishes and advice on Stick Fix. They do advertise minor carbon bike repairs but it may just be cosmetic and not actually for a frame that has.a seat stay crack like the one in my ankle.

Did the person who hit you have insurance that covered the cost of the bike?

I'm curious how that would play out too.
Years ago I had a stolen bike covered under home insurance (Meloche-Monnex)
But I've also heard of some peoples vehicle insurance covering it??

This is the best one I’ve heard of several times.

It doesn’t sound like it would be cheap, but they’re considered some of the best in the business. Might be worth it if it’s a high end frame though.

Rode prairie link this morning. The last time I rode it was in 2009 with my brother in law. It was his favorite trail that he rode before he quit biking because life got busy. He passed away a year and half ago and I've just had this urge to go and ride it. Something in me said today was the day. It was good. Don't know if it was healing or not. But it was good. I miss you buddy.

I found out recently from a personal injury lawyer that the MVAC exists even if it was not a car on car collision. Unfortunately, I was not aware of this and I was also in the hospital, etc. and did not file a claim within the 90 days they specify. It is possible to still file a claim to recoup some damages or loss of quality of life but the process can take 7 years.

I also heard from a co-worker this week that his friend was involved in a hit-and-run, the driver got out and claimed he was going to Rexall to get some medical supplies but instead fled the scene and didn't return!

Has anybody been able to find cyclist insurance? It has been a while since I last checked with my broker, and looking online isn't showing anything. Might be nice to carry my own coverage instead of hoping the person won't leave the scene.

Bow Valley Parkway when it's closed to vehicles is such a gem. Spotted 4 bears on Sunday - 1 grizzly, 3 black bears.

Nice, I saw 3 blackbears including a cub in a tree on the Norquay road last weekend. They are everywhere right now. I wonder if the lack of deep snow this year has them coming out a little sooner, and further into the valleys.

Peak bear time of year right now - dandelions are in full bloom at valley bottom and it's their primary source of food this time of year.

Great shots. Saw a grizz doing the Highwood yesterday, got a pic but not as nice as yours.
I absolutely love the bow valley parkway ride, but that is a terrific ride even with traffic on it, and is good all summer.
The Highwood road is in much worse shape and isn’t as good to ride when traffic is on it, so I like to get out on that while it’s closed and otherwise won’t be on it again this year. But both are amazing rides.

I read there is still snow at the top and gravel is a bit of an issue (Highwood that is)?

There was gravel two weeks ago when we went. Bit uncomfortable on the way down but not a major problem.
No snow unless you count a few minutes of hail at the top.

Would be so nice if they permanently closed a lane of Bow Valley Parkway to vehicles and made it a one way. Love that you see all types out there with families, rental e-bikes, not just the hardcore MAMILs.

I might be in the minority but I've never liked Highwood pass from the north side, only climbing is at the end and the rest is unremarkable from a riding perspective. No sweeping turns, always debris, road is pretty crap. I also might be a negative Nancy

I agree. Highwood from the North is trash. Some of the descent is downright sketchy with the potholes, gravel and when there's too many people on the hill.
South approach has a mix of everything and much better views. It's also a proper day out with 75ish km to the top and back.

I like the north for a quicker activity, the accomplishment of reaching the summit, and the rapid descent -- but the south approach (or gate to gate to gate if you're feeling ambitious!) is definitely a must do.
It seems to me that there's more than enough room in the right of way of both Highwood and Bow Valley to add separated bike infrastructure. Parks Canada was looking at this a number of years back for the Icefields Parkway but the project got killed because of sightlines and space required on some of the curves in the middle of a bear corridor... I wonder if Bow Valley and Highwood (especially being under provincial jurisdiction) would be more doable?
