I absolutely agree that Canada needs a domestic league. It won't solve everything, but it would be a huge step in giving Canadians a place to play, with the cream rising to the top and moving on to better leagues. There are rumours that such a league will launch in 2017.

The issue is not a US labour law issue, it is a federation issue. Canadian USL players are considered domestic, but Canadian MLS and NASL players are considered foreign. Why are Canadians domestic in one American league but foreign in another?

It's simple. The USSF does not want Canadian players on equal terms with American players in the top leagues that they control.

RIP Graham Leggat "Mr Soccer Saturday". He passed away today at the age of 81. If you don't know who he is, you didn't watch soccer in this country in the 80s and 90s.

I hope an MLS team does a Tifo for him this week.

Legend.

I thought that TLN was an add-on channel, but apparently I've got it. Nice!

Ah, TLN, the home Sexy Car Wash!

Should be an easy couple games for the squad. Part of me wants Kyle Bekker to start and pot a goal just to piss off everyone in the Voyageurs. More realistically I would like to see what Larin can accomplish up top with Hutchinson providing him service.

Also, the first home game of the next round (mid November) is rumoured to be in Vancouver. If I can get a cheap flight I might head out to that game.

Belize commentators complaining about the amount of naturalized players Canada has. The irony. And the ones they mentioned (Ricketts and Farran) were actually born here.

Better result than I expected with Floro's lineup and formation.

Also, haha Reggae Boyz.

I don't know what it is with them, they always seem to have a solid roster but can't play like a team. Too bad that matchup wasn't in our semi. El Salvador snuck by Curacao with an away goal so looking like it will be 3 trips to Central America in the semis for Les Rouges.

Good experience for a young team 3 trips to Central America.

Not the prettiest play, but a 3-0 victory over Belize is about right. Ricketts gets crapped on a lot by supporters, but he's now 6th all time in goals for Canada.

Only change I'd make to the starting 11 is to sit Issey and bring on Akindele. Though Issey got into some good positions he wasted every chance he had. I imagine Piette is starting DM over de Guzman considering his injury as well.

Side note, throwing smoke bombs onto the pitch is not cool.

Ricketts looks like an all-star when we play the smaller nations but really out of his depth against tougher competition - I think most of his goals have come against small Caribbean nations. He definitely helps us get by some of the minnows though, without him could have been a tough trip to Belize, helped a lot against Dominica and Puerto Rico and St. Kitts in the last cycle.

So I assume that our viewing option for the Belize leg tomorrow is simply a web stream? And I'm guessing that's not even a sure thing and is dependent on the telecom situation at the stadium.

Canada drew 1-1, good enough.

Jamaica got a 90th minute winner to qualify!

GROUP A: Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Canada

GROUP B: Costa Rica, Panama, Haiti, Jamica

GROUP C: United States, Trinidad & Tobago, Saint Vincents and the Grenadines, Guatemala

Canada is going to get waxed. The US has a walk in the park, wish Canada got that draw.

Wasn't able to watch, but by all accounts the game last night was atrocious. The Belize channel doing the stream was apparently legendary though.

Canada is going to get absolutely smoked in the next round. IMO, we will be lucky to win 2 of the 6 games, and I think only game we win is the home game against El Salvador.

First up, Nov 13 against Honduras in Vancouver. Disappointing that we won't use the cold weather to our advantage like we should be doing. Honduras would have no problems playing us in the middle of the afternoon in 35 degree heat, we should be returning the favour.

i kind of like that Canada has a hard group, need experience.

Wasn't going to make the hex in any group anyways, not with this coach.

Edit: and playing in Vancouver is stupid, that game should be played in Winnipeg.

We'll basically know after game one whether on not we have a chance to move on. 3 points is absolutely essential to have a shot at finishing ahead of Honduras.
