The 3 and 5 year fixed rates offered were $3.89/GJ for NG and $7.29/kWH for electricity.

Am I buggered? Are they likely to be lenient if I call and ask to get on one of their fixed rate plans still? This stuff is so over my head I've honestly just avoided it for years!

Well you've started reading stuff here so probably are well equipped for a few questions. No harm in phoning up and saying to the CSR "please help me understand....." and/or ask open ended questions along the lines of "what are my options for a fixed rate plan now" and/or "I've been in touch with Enmax and am curious about XZY....". Remember you don't want to start confrontational, and be friendly if anything, and you'd be surprised how far you can get with CSR just by being pleasant. Hence the expression "you get more with honey..."

Gas prices seem to be falling. Anyone thinking of switching back to floating?

Taking a look at our recent Enmax bill for Oct, we would have a saved a wopping $7.29 if we were on the fixed rate of $4.09/GJ.

The cure for high NG prices is high NG prices.

Double that for each of November and December and increase your usage. You appear to be down a case of beer.

The actual energy portion of your utilities is really small. Also - Atco fixed is $3.79

It's like mother nature drew a line at the Canada/US border and declared no nice weather for you!

Luckily my kids can't go back to school for two weeks after coming back from a vacation, even after their 3 mandatory covid tests come back negative.

Really depends what you can lock in at. My locked in gas rate (that expires in January) has saved me a bunch over the last 3 years.

Hey CP'ers, would you mind sharing your most recent heating bill amounts? Mine was $715 for one month ending on Jan 7 at $3.79/gJ (including $152 carbon tax). We've been at this house for almost 20 years and I don't think I've ever seen it this high.

My last bill wasn't too bad but it doesn't include the cold snap over Christmas. Bill date Jan 12 with usage up to Dec 19 and my NG was $170 total. Actual NG was $52, carbon tax was $29 and the remainder was fees and other add-ons.

WOAH!

My total bill was about $330 which is fairly average this time of year. Doesn't include the cold snap yet.

With taxes and other fees, they're saying that you used 45-50 GJ in the last billing period, an extraordinarily high amount. Even for the infamous February 2019 (the coldest month in generations), my consumption was only about 16 GJ.

Unless you're heating a giant pool in your backyard, I'd think it has to be some sort of misreading.

72GJ used, $283 gas cost + $246 delivery charges + $185 taxes (CT and GST). This is insane.

We don't. As I said earlier, never seen it this high in 20 years. We've used 50 GJ at the most in the coldest months.

Did you look to see if the before and after readings are estimates or real?

Some things to check

How many days were you billed for in this “month”
Is this an estimate reading or an actual reading
We’re your previous months actual or estimates
Check your gas meter reading against the current bill reading.
