Default Paperclips Game

If you miss wasting time a la cookie clicker, here's a game my daughter just introduced me to. More decision-making involved to be able to complete the game (I think I just completed it - though it's not immediately obvious), and it spans a few different areas, not just paper clip production.

Begging forgiveness in advance for time wasted/broken mouse buttons/etc.

Ya, don't play this. You will lose days trying to optimize. I think I played through 4 times.

Could there be any better endorsement for this sort of game?

I have a terrible habit of buying way more wire then I need. I panic when I see it dip to 15$ and load up Agh this game!

I'm the same way. Always trying to get $14 wire, even though the difference between $14 and $27 wire is miniscule in the grand scale of things. Eventually, though, you delegate the wire purchase and focus on other things.

It's a great game that way - brings you along at a reasonable pace to some of its other aspects.

One of the better clicker games IMO despite the simple premise.

I'd have to clear my cookies to play again though I guess:

When you've built up your combat points enough that you can dominate almost every battle, watching the combat window is very satisfying and soothing. Really nicely written.

The algorithms behind the game seem wrong. If my manufacturing is twice my sales, why is my inventory going down? If there's an explanation (aliens?) it needs to come earlier so it doesn't look like the game is just wrong.

First run (probably only)
2h 3m 40s, 164M clips
... completely missed the power grid part of the game.

I got addicted to Stardew Valley, pretty much the same principle.

That game has quite the hook to keep you going. I didn't figure out how to use the stock investment part I just kept going on building paperclips. I try to avoid it going forward. Those click games can really suck you in.

And at least when I used to play this older game, it was over in 15 minutes. There was an end.

One neat thing I discovered was being able to keep the game going after making what I thought was a game-ending mistake.

The first time...

The second time...

If you didn't know this, the game is also a demonstration/warning on the potential dangers of letting AI's independently solve problems.

Even a seemingly harmless paperclip production optimizer could destroy the world.

I'm in a bit of a rut where I need 70,000 ops to get the brand ambassadors but I put a lot of Trust into Processors, so I can't get even close to that without more Memory, and Trust is now close to $100M in cost. Am I just going to have to slog it out and wait, or do I let it sit for a very long time to get the 50,000 creativity to try those upgrades for the simulator?
