Receiving e-mails on my Samsung galaxy S3

I just added my work email to my phone and I have a couple questions, if anyone here knows the answers that'd be great.

1. How do I get emails to come through to my phone immediately, as opposed to having to hit refresh from inside the email app.....and is that even a good idea, or does it use up too much battery life?

2. While setting up my work email, I somehow managed to engage a feature where I know get an email every time I receive a text message. How do I turn that off?

You can call the service desk of your company to manage those features.

I'm guessing your are using the Samsung e-mail app which is terrible with Active Sync. Find a different e-mail application.

You need to be on push notifications to have your email show up when it arrives as opposed to hitting refresh or having a sync time set, 5mins, 15mims etc.

For emails to come through immediately, turn on sync for that app and account. You might even be able to change if it pushes or just checks every x minutes, I can't remember for sure.

H&L: That's funny you mention the default app is bad because anything but the stock email app typically gives me way more problems with exchange accounts.
edit: Disregard, I totally forgot that I haven't used the stock Samsung email for almost as long as I have owned my phone. I am referring to whatever comes stock on AOSP ROMs.
