I am confused what that quote about Windows 8 is even trying to say.
Also, I am confused at how a group of people who play 4-10 year old AAA titles will be satisfied playing a platform with very few AAA games that exist on it. Unless your contention is that these people who don't want to spend lots of money at a time will both buy the new xbox720/ps4 AND the Ouya?

Ya the whole Windows 8 thing is being overblown. It's not like companies are going to stop developing games for the PC because of an operating system no one will buy. Windows 7 is going to be like XP was to Vista.

They buy consoles when they are old and cheap, possibly used with a stack of games on the side. They have the money to spend, but don't care enough to spend huge amounts at a time.
Essentially, only a small percentage of people in any large hobby are enthusiasts. Games are mainstream now, and casual gamers are as a result a huge market now. The question is, will they find this console at all, and will they care enough to buy it? Does the big screen have a special draw to these people?

You and your friends are not even close to defining the gaming market though. Look at the Call of Duty franchise - each game in the series is capable of generating over 1 billion dollars in sales. The people who want AAA titles are not in any way the small hobbiest segment of the market anymore. It's as mainstream as Hollywood movies (and many titles and game studios outperform their Hollywood counterparts)

Looks like Ouya will be streaming games through OnLive.
I used OnLive awhile ago when I didn't have a PC to run what I wanted to run. A really valuable service, and I think one with potential, but the limited game catalogue and -- especially -- the artifacts generated from the streaming process really bothered me. I actually beat Bioshock using it, though, but you don't get the crispness of HD graphics when streaming over it (and I had a darn good connection at the time).

And yet there's a notable amount of money in the indie movie and straight-to-video movie business.

And in other news, OnLive just filed in California for liquidation of the company.
But don't worry, I'm sure there's lots more top-tier stuff in the pipeline for Ouya.

I am willing to bet that there are millions of dollars investing in having this console die. Too bad it seems like it won't make it off the ground. If it could show a profit I bet better generations of this console or similar consoles will follow. The people are the ones who "suffer" from this dying.
The funding for it is done. They reached their goal Aug 9th - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...o-game-console
It will be great if this thing makes it to our door.

Jesus, 73% of system owners not having bought a single game after an entire month? Not surprising I guess but who is going to make games for this? Perhaps that was the point really, just emulation/piracy?

Received mine two weeks ago and it is still sitting in the box. I thought I would be more excited about it.
In its defense...hasn't it only been out for a month?

But isn't that the point? A full month after launch of a brand new "console" and nothing material? 3/4 of owners haven't bought a single thing?
Cue the usual Android and piracy link rant, etc.

You can't even make it three sentences into that article without the CEO uttering "monetization"

Man, I have to resist the urge to open the damn box while stopped at traffic lights when I buy a new gadget. I'm surprised you haven't bothered to do anything with it yet.

Really does seem like a lot of the hype and fanfare was unwarranted.

I considered the Ouya, but only as a media terminal. The game portion was a distant second, so if a lot of other people thought the same way, those numbers make a lot of sense.
