Finally got around to playing with my Ouya. As just a game console is pretty pathetic...I don't see how it is going to survive. There is no point buying games for this thing (games for it aren't great) and not sure if it can survive on hardware sales at $99.

Once hacked this little device is pretty BA. After rooting it I was playing games from all sorts of emulators, had XBMC running in 10 minutes, and was able to install all sorts of free Android apps and games. The hacking community is pretty advanced already and pretty organized. This device will be replacing my bedroom Boxee Box and now I am regretting the HTPC parts I bought last year for way more than $99.

If you like to play around with gadgets and hack them up I definitely recommend the Ouya.

Installing someone else's binaries on a device someone else built isn't hacking, it's installing. If you want to truly hack on a platform like this (small, low powered, ARM instruction set, etc), there are tons of better documented and more open solutions to cut your teeth on.

/end grumpy curmudgeon mode (and certainly not directed at you, I know what you meant)

Official ad?

$60 for a game? Why, it's "free" - or just pirate/sideload it.

the console itself is cheap, but games are a bit on the pricy side imo. where do you buy games, i have never seen any in gamestop or anywhere else

The name 'Ouya' still makes me think of doing a Duckman pelvic thrust.
